Photo sizing-Images too big

  1. I have searched the FAQs and the forums and still can't figure out how to size my photos correctly. I size them down to the correct pixel sized designated by the template, but after I upload them and check "full size".....they're HUGE!! Only half the images even fit on the page. I don't want to post them as thumbnails, but I'd like them to be much smaller than they are. I also optimized the images in PS before uploading and still too big...please help!

  2. I put all my images in MSPaint and re-size them to exact specifications prior to uploading and never have this problem. Although I can't help you sending in a feedback to staff will be effective.

I recently loaded photos to my blog. They were too big. I figured out a way to do a quick fix. Upload the photo to the editor full size. Once the photo is in the editor, click on the photo. This will add white lines around the photo which you can drag in to make the photo smaller.

I only tried it the one time so I might not be remembering the steps 100%. But, this should get you started in the right direction.

What a relief too. Much faster than opening my photo editing program and bothering with all that. A very nice feature.

  4. Thanks for these instructions which are applicable to those using the visual rich text editor. :) For others reading this thread they do not apply to those of us who have turned the visual rich text editor off.

  5. Thank you Sonomavall!! I've been trying to figure this out all day!

I was working with photos again yesterday and found another, eaiser way to modify the size of the photos. Once you upload the photo, send it to the editor full size, then click on the picture in the editor, then click on the little photo icon in the tool bar above the editor window. That brings up another little window where you can do all sorts of adjustments to the photo including putting in the size you want it to be. It was very easy with the set up I have which is using the theme Thirteen.

  7. A few questions about photos. If someone can answer one or all of them I would much appreciate it.

It appears that I need to write the post before uploading the photo. If I upload the photo first, the screen locks up and won't allow me to type anything. So type first and upload photo later, always?

Then I run into another problem: When I upload the photo, it attaches to the text, no matter how far to the right I have placed the text. There must be a way to grab hold of the photo and move it around. Would someone be so kind as to tell me how?

How do I get my photo to display on the first page of wordpress.com when I log on? Currently, there's a box for it, but it is grey. I can upload the actual photo, not a grey box, into a post. Why does it display as a grey box on the front page?

Finally, how do people get featured on wordpress.com home page?

That is not normal behavior. What browser & OS are you using?

This can be browser-dependent. What browser & OS are you using?

This photo is called an avatar. Please check the FAQ entry on avatars (in the list of FAQ entries i already gave you)

how do people get featured on wordpress.com home page?

This has been asked time and again. Please search the forum for an answer

  9. Thank you for your response, Judy.

You requested OS and browser info re: two of my issues:
    1. If I upload the photo first, the screen locks up and won't allow me to type anything.
    2. I can't grab hold of the photo and move it around.

    My browser is Mozilla Firefox.
My operating system is windows XP home edition version 2002 service pak 2.

As you can't seem to follow the FAQs directions I recommend that you deal directly with staff http://wordpress.com/contact-support/

  11. @123clear:
definitely contact staff about that browser lock-up issue. Someone using Windows might be abler to give you tips on moving the image around inside a post.

  12. Thanks, all, for your responses. The FAQ direction link that judyb12 sent (http://faq.wordpress.com/tag/images/) solved the problem. The directions are clear and easy to follow. The problem was figuring out which FAQ direction I needed.

  13. Okay, so which FAQ direction did you take? I'm having this exact problem and I'm not sure how to solve it.

  14. Why don'u upload it to imageshack.us, they put a good service hosting images AND resizing it for you!
