PHP code for social plugin has crashed my site

  1. Site and all access has crashed after trying to install php code for floating social media icons.

    Have followed these steps with no avail...
    1. Via FTP, find the wp-config.php file (root directory), and locate this line:
    define('WP_DEBUG', false);

    Change the 'false' to 'true' - then reload the page in your browser. - Same 500 server error.

    2. Went through my browsing history and located the first "error" page (http://www.breanek.net/BREANEKnew/wp-admin/theme-editor.php?file=functions.php&theme=headway&scrollto=0&updated=true.) and have gone in via FTP to "wp-admin/theme-editor.php" copied the PHP code and run a code check through various online tools and come back with two results...
    a - (is the most common) Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in CODE on line 23 Errors parsing CODE...
    Line 23: get_current_screen()->add_help_tab( array(

    or

    b - Error: There is 1 array declaration that contain a single equal sign '=' instead of '=>':
    Error: There are 3 array declarations that contain text character variables or values without quotations:

    I'm a relative novice to this, I built the site quite happily using Headway Themes and have changed a small amount of HTML & CSS as I've learnt about it with positive results. I was following the video tutorial for the social media icon plugin and hit 'update' only for the site to crash and now I can't access ANYTHING other than http://FTP...HELP?!?!

  2. Typo...

    ...was supposed to read...

    "...now I can't access ANYTHING other than through http://FTP...HELP?!?!"

    :-)

  3. This forum is only for support of sites hosted on WordPress.COM. Your site is not hosted on WordPress.COM and you are posting to the wrong support forum. Your support questions must be posted to the correct support site for your software and that is here http://wordpress.ORG/support/
    For more on the differences: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  4. Thanks for your blunt reply timethief, like I said "I'm a novice", a little less formality and some added friendliness would be a welcome boost!?!

  5. No projection and less punctuation might convince me you have a suggestion that merits my consideration. You're dismissed.

  6. "dismissed"? Are you like the headmistress then? Do you govern all you survey? How rude!

    I joined this forum because I have nowhere else to go now that my site has crashed, I didn't expect such an appauling introduction to "blogging", I expected useful support from likeminded individuals or professionals, along with an air of familiarity and friendliness. After all, isn't that what the wonder of the web is these days?

    Needless to say I had posted the same thing on both the .org and the .com forums because I'm desperate to get a fix ASAP. Figured I'd do both to 'up' my chance of a suitable response, but of course you thought of that before you shot your harsh response to me didn't you?

    Thanks all the same for the response, had I been thick as shit I would've needed your superiority complex to guide me on my little fairytale adventure in which case it would've been a great help. Unfortunately you have just irritated me more than I already was and have put me off support forums for life!

    Well done, you really have been a "thief" of my "time"!

    Thanks for nothing.

  7. She could have left you sitting in the wrong forum with no answer and let you waste much time - you were given links to where you can ask for help - the issue is that the software here is way different in many respects - and your question of crashed site is one of them - we can't do code here - many times people will post questions here by accident not knowing that they should be over at WordPress.ORG - we try and point the wrong forum people to the correct forum as quick as possible -

  8. Note that neither .com or .org forums provide emotional support, just technical.
