Picture in place of title?

  1. I want to put a picture up where the blog title is, but I can't find anything that will let me do that. I'd also like to throw on some quotes in little text boxes in the sidebar, but I find no way to do that either. Are either of these possible with wordpress?

The blog I need help with is alexhaig.wordpress.com.

  2. While I like the overall theme I've chosen for my blog, I'd like to change the fonts. Is there any way for me to do that?

  3. Since your blog is set to private, we cannot see it. Some themes have custom header options and some do not. This support document tells which do and which do not: http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-header-image/ .

If you are using a theme without a custom header option, it would require CSS editing experience and the paid CSS upgrade to put in a custom header.

You can change the fonts on a post by post and page by page basis using HTML: http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/font-size-color/ . To do it blog-wide, would again require CSS editing experience and the paid CSS upgrade.

  4. Image in place of blog title & font
If you wish to pay for a CSS upgrade and edit the CSS yourself, as there is no staff support for learning CSS, then you can place an image where the title is now, and you can change font throughout your blog.

    Fonts
If you do not wish to purchase the CSS upgrade and undertake editing the CSS stylesheet for your blog then you can change the font on each and every post and page you create.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/font-size-color/
If you do not wish to do either of those then you can switch to a theme that has a font that you prefer.

  5. ♫ a duet ♫ ;)

  6. I used the theme MistyLook. At least it allowed for a large customizable photo across the top of the blog.

  7. Thanks everybody! Unfortunately, this means I go with Blogger. I hope WordPress gets more user-friendly for us none-programming types, cause let's face it: wordpress is loads better sounding than blogspot. Ew.

  8. You know Alex, for controlling fonts here you might want to check out Windows Live Writer, a free blog client application. It has a bunch of extremely useful features, and will even publish your posts for you directly from the application - images included. It includes font controls and also tables which can be useful sometimes. It won't let you set the fonts for the entire blog, but you can set them for posts very easily. I'm on Mac and wish they had a version for us. I use Ecto, which works quite well, but isn't as feature rich as WLW.

  9. Alex you cant just use somthing else now, otherwise theres no point of joining WP anyway, What you should of done is read about wordpress before you join, not vistit it then staight away you join.

  10. sometimes you dont know how well you'll like a place until you join. I knew nothing about wordpress or blogging before I came here. I also joined blogger and found blogger to be more difficult and bothersome to work on.

  11. I also found blogger more difficult and confusing. I've been with WP now for just about a year and if you look through everything, take your time and keep your patience level up then you'll get it. Alex, I would try the Windows Live Writer before making a decision and look through ALL of the themes to see what they can or can not do. Most importantly try having fun with it!
