Why do my own pingbacks (links in my posts to prior posts on my blog) now require approval to post?

Why do my own pingbacks (links in my posts to prior posts on my blog) now require approval to post?
The blog I need help with is bullrunnings.wordpress.com.
Although I could be wrong, I assume that this is because approval provides a means of making posting them optional. Some don't want a slew of pingbacks autoposting and some don't want them at all and delete them. You can stop self-pings. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pingbacks/
