  3. After a lot of work and some test trials, I figured out a semi-easy way to insert a pin it! button into my wordpress.com blog. I wrote a post about it that gives step by step directions. Hope this helps my fellow wordpress.com-ers!

  5. You can put the code for the Pinterest follow button in a text widget.

    1. Go to this site, choose which one of the red Follow Me images you want, and copy the code for it. http://pinterest.com/about/goodies/

    2. Then, go to your widgets > Appearance > Widgets and select a text widget.http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/

    3. Paste the Pinterest follow button code into the text widget, "save" the widget, "close" the widget and place it where you want it to display in your sidebar.

I hope WordPress can add Pinterest as one of the buttons under the "Share" option.

  8. At the moment it appears that adding a Pinterest sharing button can't be done. Please see this earlier reply by Staff and the reason:

  12. Actually, I figured out that adding the Pin it button can be done as I wrote earlier in the stream it's just not easy. I wrote a blog post explaining how to add it to your blog posts/photos here: null

  13. The link that says null actually links to my blog post explaining how to add the pin it button http://betweenheandshe.com/2012/01/10/how-to-add-the-pin-it-button-for-wordpress-com-blogs/

  14. We would also love a Pin It button (vs the Follow)- thanks!

  15. Hopefully it get's worked out because pinterest is gaining a lot of momentum and people seem more interested in sharing things via "pinning" them than any other form of sharing I've seen in a while.

  16. I would concur with CaptJoe that considering the explosive growth of Pinterest, WordPress.com should make a Pin It button a top priority. In the meantime, I'll take a look at Naomi's post.

  17. Yes please can I have a"pin it" button/badge too! lol

  21. Thanks for linking to my post about adding the Pin It! button. My fingers are crossed that WP.com comes up with something easier soon!

  22. I'm curious. With so much interest in sharing via Pinterest, does it bother you that many others (aka Affiliates of Pinterest) are making money the more you Pin. I barely understand how this is done but I'm pretty sure it's all going to come out soon starting with http://mashable.com/2012/02/08/pinterest-affiliated-links/

  23. @shimworld
I have also blogged on this as well. It’s good to know that affiliate link disclosure is expected under the FTC as of December 1, 2009 and very disappointing that Pinterest make no such disclosure. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) clarified and updated their guidelines regarding deceptive advertising. For all the official details, read:
    http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2009/10/endortest.shtm

One of my readers has been updating us. There was an article in the blog section of the New York Times yesterday about Pinterest and links – so the questionable practises (if there are any) have hit the big time news. http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/02/07/is-pinterest-already-making-money-quietly/

  24. They claim it's not illegal but from my standpoint as a professional photographer, it's both illegal and unethical to profit from use of my images without any notice. In their defense they could say I waived that right when I signed up. Goes back to the saying "when something appears too good to be true, it probably is" .... sigh!

  25. Links that are not affiliate links on Pinterest and are directed to a merchant website (and they have an affiliate program, that Skimlinks is approved for, etc) are replaced with Skimlinks affiliate link when the user clicks through.

I think the future may hold a major lawsuit over images and non-disclosure of affiliate links.

  26. For all those who wanted to add Pinterest to their WordPress.com site, it's now available in your Sharing buttons.
