Hello, I am having difficulty retrieving some information. If you go to my site newenglandpetguide.wordpress.com my home page shows my blog but my columns on the right are gone. Recent post, Archives, Categories, Cloud and Meta are not there. However, if you go onto my About page you can still see them there...any ideas how to get them pack on the home page?

    April

The blog I need help with is newenglandpetguide.wordpress.com.

  2. Hi April. Your "columns on the right" (your widgets) are all the way at the bottom of the page actually. This might solve it:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/layout-issues/#sidebar

This being said, may I suggest that in the future, you do use a "brief and descriptive" title? For example, you could have titled your topic "Columns on the right are gone".

  3. I just went into your blog, viewing standard site and meta, cloud and categories are down at the bottom if you scroll right down.

  4. @jessielansdel
Yes and the way to solve that is found at the link that airodyssey has posted. The reason sidebars fall and is display below your posts is either due to copying and pasting or it can also be a result of importing text containing invalid HTML. Typically this is caused by an open HTML tag.

If you have been copying and pasting text from elsewhere without using either icon 5 or icon 6 in Row 2 of the visual editor, please see here so you know how to do this correctly in the future. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text

ok feeling like an idiot I still can't get the columns back up the the right hand column...not very skilled in any html stuff but didn't see and (div) etc as mentioned in the directions from above. :(

  7. Forgive me please for being repetitive but did you do the following?

Go to Settings > Writing and select “ ___ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then scroll down and click “Save Changes.”

Starting with your latest post, open it in the editor, make one minor change such as adding a space and then deleting it, and then click “Update Post.” Check your blog and see if it is back to normal.

If it’s not, then look for an open HTML tag and close it. Check your blog again and see if it is back to normal. If it’s still “messed up” then open the next post and do the same thing post by post until it goes back to normal.

I followed the directions from the link above but could not find anything...at the end of directions it had a link to wordpress support for those of us not too brilliant with html issues:). I will however follow your info and retry..Thank you so much for your help..I am great at research on the computer but the actual mechanics of a site...not so :) It will get fixed one way or the other. Everyone here is such a supportive community, I greatly appreciate it.

  9. You definitely need to do this; looks like your material is copy-pasted from elsewhere on the web and it'd introducing a huge number of errors in your HTML.

The instructions may sound complex, but it's not difficult. Go to Dashboard->Settings->Writing and there's a tickbox that says "WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then scroll down and click “Save Changes." Just select it.

This means that in any post from now on that you make or edit, WP will fix all the code errors automatically. You don't need to worry about editing code.

Then you need to go into your last post and Edit it. Change anything at all: a comma to a period, or anything. Then hit Update. That will cause WP to fix all the code errors in that post.

Then do it for the post before that, and so on until at some point you'll have corrected the error which caused this. You don't need to Edit code, just edit the post.

Also, I hope you have the permission of those sites whose material you're using. Otherwise that's illegal.

Thanks so much..yes I have permission even from the ones on an open news site..many are also post from my advertisers on another site (part of my marketing package for them) I eventually want to combine both website and blog but have a full plate right now.
    Again, thanks for your help.

Thanks all found the issue...a comic that a friend sent per her business facebook site.

  12. Um, if you're charging (even as part of a package) for exposure on your WordPress.com blog, you are in violation of the terms of service here, and your blog could be suspended or deleted. You cannot charge for advertising in any way whatsoever, for exposure on a WP.com blog.

Your not hearing me clearly....I'm not charging here they pay for space on another actual website. Also, many come from a news service that offers you to "share" thoughts, articles, commentary, etc in anyway in which you choose.Rescues/shelters and many of those sources are given free service as they are non profits.
My attorney reads all contracts, advices and guides all of my business ventures My suggestion is If you would like to make further comments email me rather than make public assumptions.

  14. Sounds like a package deal to me - buy ads on the other site get mentioned here - I side with @raincoaster that you have a Terms of Service problem. I have a couple of former DA friends that put a lot of people in jail with less admission than you just admitted to.

More important - being rude to @raincoaster is very bad Karma.

  15. @newenglandpetguide
I agree with raincoaster and auxclass - what you describe is a ToS issue. . I also find your rude response to raincoaster to be completely out of line given that you chose to post to this public peer support forum where Volunteers answer support questions. Those who are in business must practice due diligence and that amounts to contacting Staff with all your details.

P.S. raincoaster and I have been here for over 5 years and we have seen many blogs suspended for Terms of Service violations. In those cases the bloggers also failed to employ due diligence by contact Staff and they lost all of their blog content.

  16. You will want to show your attorney this thread.

Oops, did I just comment here rather than email? Well, why don't you post your email in this thread so I can find it?
