Please HELP, importing from another wordpress blog.

  1. Hi folks.

So, I just got myself a wordpress account and I want to import from
    another wordpress blog.

So, I click on the import and I get this.

"Howdy! Upload your WordPress eXtended RSS (WXR) file and we’ll import..."

Now, here's the problem, which exact file is it that I will have to upload.
I need the file endings and so on because I have no clue what so ever:-)

Thanks in advance and I would appreciate any help I can get.

    Cheers.

    Chris

  2. Below is the link to a blog article I wrote on this with special mention to britgirl and sunburntkamel who helped me improve it.
Importing and exporting wordpress.com blogs on wordpress MU blogging platforms

There is an import and export function for this purpose in your dashboard
    -> dashboard -> manage -> export -> wordpress

    (1) You can export the contents of your blog (posts, comments, categories) in the form of an xml file to your desktop and then import the xml file into the other blog site.

    (2) The blogroll links must be separately exported and re-categorized. That means you will have to re-assign them to each link but it's better than copying and pasting those links yet again. :)

  3. Hi timethief.

    Thanks for the reply.

I am trying to import from a wordpress blog that I have on my own hosting account
so I need to know which exact file it is that I have to export or copy so I later can
use the import feature here on my wordpress.com blog.

I can't find an export feature in my dashboard because I don't have that
    feature in there:-( .

    Cheers

    Chris

  4. First you need to install the technosailor plug-in on your wordpress.org blog. Click the link to my blog article above and you will find it.

  5. Applause.....

Worked like a charm and I am up and running.

    Thanx million.
