Now making Google and WordPress.com play nice so mail from PracticalGrintuition.com can be sent and received is needed. What are the steps? I've already verified the domain with Google. No existing WordPress.com "help" seems to either be current or have the correct information.

  4. You can setup your email with Google Apps for Domains following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/google-apps-email/

That page doesn't have current instructions beginning with step seven.

  6. Step 7 should be accurate as of last week. Were you already using Google Apps for Domains before moving to WordPress.com?

    - On my WordPress.com Dashboard, Store, Domains page, there's no link that says, "Edit DNS."

    - Ownership of the domain has already been verified by Google, under WordPress.com's links, Tools, Available Tools, using a meta key from Google

    - At WordPress.com's Available Tools link is no button which says, "Generate DNS Records," which seems to be what I need now

    - Under Settings, Domains is a link which says, "Domain Adminstration." Below that the drop-downs listed include, "Make changes to DNS," but an option for generating what seem to be the appropriate MX and CName records aren't available. The only option at that point seems to be log-in to WordPress.com's registrar at idp.securepaynet.net. The MX and CName records generation tools aren't visible there, and when I telephoned them (the registrar) they said I must contact WordPress.com.

    - So, no, I don't understand how the link that was suggested would help.

WordPress.com was contacted about this same concern on 1/21/12 via e-mail. As of this note, five days later, there's still no workable response from WordPress.com. What's up with that WordPress?

  9. On my WordPress.com Dashboard, Store, Domains page, there's no link that says, "Edit DNS."

It will be there, unless you aren't the user who owns the domain upgrade. See http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/custom-dns/ for more specific details.

Ownership of the domain has already been verified by Google, under WordPress.com's links, Tools, Available Tools, using a meta key from Google

That verifies it with Google Webmaster Tools, not Google Apps for Domains.

At WordPress.com's Available Tools link is no button which says, "Generate DNS Records," which seems to be what I need now

This is in the Custom DNS panel, not the Tools section.

Thank you. After clicking "Edit DNS," WordPress.com sends the browser to the wrong page. It tries to have me log-in as @PracticalGrintuition.com, when instead the account is carried under @theSoulRider.net.
