Pls. help me! I think someone is trying to hack into my blog. What should I do?

  1. For about a couple of weeks now, I have been receiving this email:

Someone requested that the password be reset for the following account:

    https://wordpress.com/

    Username: *****

If this was a mistake, just ignore this email and nothing will happen.

To reset your password, visit the following address:

    <https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=rp&key=JL47nqLfSTATxWwZ7A2t&login=****>

It’s from [email redacted] (I just placed the asterisks to replace the user name here).

Is there anything I can do other than keep changing my password? Can wordpress block the hacker somehow? This is really freaking me out... :-(

  2. You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.

This support forum is for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. If your question is about a self-hosted WordPress blog then you'll find help at the WordPress.org forums.

If you don't understand the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, you may find this information helpful.

If you forgot to include a link to your blog, you can reply and include it below. It'll help people to answer your question.

    This is an automated message.

  3. Only you can change the password by clicking that link in your email.

The reset email is only sent to the email address on your account, so you really have nothing to worry about. More than likely, someone else mistyped their username.

  4. If someone was trying to hack into your site it is unlikely they would use the reset Password option but would just keep typing in new guesses at at your password.

Make sure you have a long secure password.

You could also have someone that is just messing with your mind by choosing the reset password option just to have you sent an unsettling email.

As @macmanx has noted above you get the email an nobody else.
