There is no FTP access to our free hosted WorPress.com blogs and we bloggers can't install plugins for security reasons. http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/ Also note that there is no upgrade you can purchase that allows FTP access and the ability to install plugins. Only those with WordPress.org installs can use plugins http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
thank you for the quick response. been driving me crazy all day!
can i just download and transfer everything to wordpress.org ? so i can then do the plugins?
You need to hire a web host, set up an install from WordPress.org, install a theme and plugins into it, export your content out of the WordPress.com blog, and import it into the WordPress.org install.
