Porn blog appearing in Top Blogs? How come!!!!

  1. I was reading an archive post in our forum and nosysnoop sharing that Porn blog is Okay to open however it is not entitled to appear in Top Blog/Posts. How come [link removed by Trent] appearing in Top Blogs????

  2. The archive thread supporting the above is here http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=7019&page&replies=5

  3. Click "Blog Info" then "Report as mature".

Porn blogs can appear in top blogs if they haven't ever been reported before.

  4. Oh my god WHAT THE H*** IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE???

  5. Do as Engtech said - you report these things.

All you are doing is driving traffic to that blog.

It is now marked as Mature and will drop off the lists.

    chicablog - relax..... it's a free world :)

  6. Yeah I know...but still, porn...scares me...a bit.

  7. Does it at least have a front 'cover' stating 'blah blah you have to be OVER 18 blah blah'?

  8. Could the link provided by the original poster please be removed? Tx

  9. Yeah, good idea timethief! Where's drmike when ya need him!?!?!

  10. Can I report the blog withOUT visiting it?

  11. The blog still continuing to appear in Top blog and Fastest growing blog as well. How come still its there when I and Mark also reported it mature?? This is encouraging and tempting me to open one of the finest porn blog on WP. I've the best X rated stuff to post if someone assure me to post in Top Blogs. (Not true just kidding to show & criticize openly how the top blogs functionality is malfunctioning against the ToS)

  12. @chicablog
I don't think jack1 knows how young you are and how shocked you feel but I do. So to answer your question:

Yes. You can report this blog without visiting it. Simply go to the front of your blog and on the far right hand top corner hover your mouse over "Blog Info". A drop down menu will appear. Click on "Report as Mature" and type the porno blog url into the correct spot. Then, in the pane where you can say why you are reporting it, type: "nude and semi-nude images".

Don't worry about the link, okay. It will eventually be removed.

  13. It said 'I will get back to you ASAP' does that mean they'll email me??!!!!

  14. Yes, it probably does mean they will send a confirmation email to the email address you registered with wordpress. Just remain calm and go on about your own blogging.

  15. okay...I registered under a friend's email, w/ her permission. I didn't want it to get sent to my brother's (insert our ISP here) email.

  16. Everything is okay. There are two of you working on your blog and using the other email address is fine. The email from wordpress will go to it because it's the one you registered with. Let's make this the last message posted on this thread, okay?

  17. "The blog still continuing to appear in Top blog and Fastest growing blog as well"

It can take up to two hours for the caching to flush the blog out of the list.

  18. Thanks for replying - Could the link provided by the original poster please be removed? Tx

  19. I removed it. Nice to know Lloyd.

    Trent

  20. Lord knows this isn't the first time it's happened. I think I reported on in Top Blogs called XXXGAYPORNXXX or something; surely that was unambiguous. The best response, for future reference, is to report it immediately through the regular "report as mature" function, but I would additionally send an email marked "Top Blog Is Porn" which will certainly get some attention ASAP. The guys do act quickly on these things.

  21. And there really is no better way than the current system.

  22. I always miss the fun around here. :)

  23. I think the mature blogs should also have their own version of Top Blogs and Top Posts. I don't have a problem with porn but I do realize there is a time and a place for everything and there are people and children that do not want to see that kind of material.

  24. raincoaster, only using the "report as mature" functionality is actually preferred. They are their own priority queue.

nosysnoop, mature is not just porn, and although there are interesting problems to explore, we have more than enough challenging interesting problems to explore serving the majority audience. Maybe that is a service that another site can provide.

  25. Encouraging reporting and damning without judging for oneself?? Wow it almost sounds like the Religious Reich are here. What a crazy world we live in where we judge a book; not even by it's cover because we're unwilling to even look at the cover...but by someone else's judgment. Would you demand a play called "The Vagina Monologues" be banned due to its pornographic nature?

I respect people's right not to see adult material. I also respect some people are not so conservative minded. If some people in who's opinions you value deem a site to be mature, your decision should be clear cut......don't visit it. Or visit to judge for yourself and report if you agree and feel it needs to be reported.

I respect that either way.......but to report it BLIND????? WTF???? Are you your own person?? Or do you follow the crowd and jump when told to??

  26. All you doing is reporting a blog as such. Doesn't mean it doesn't get checked out before it being marked as such.

Staff and I have disagreed over what gets marked as such. There's no action being done blindly here.

Me think you're overreacting a bit.

  27. Yeah you're probs right, I just get pissed off at the Religious Reich demanding we all live life by their rules, demanding stuff is banned without even looking at it, merely on a rumor that it "may" be offensive. I'm merely making the point that suggesting or encouraging that practice (for religious or other reasons) is like encouraging people to follow blind instead of making their own mind up.

  28. @dirkgently
As you are newly arrived I'm thinking you're probably going to be devoting a great deal of time towards creating blog content. So if you're feeling pissed then your blog is the appropriate place to express your opinion about the Religious Reich or any other group that you care to label.

  29. Also remember that marking a blog as matrue isn't banning. All is does it remove it from the tag system, the botd system, and the next blog link system. The blog is still there and functions fine.

  30. And of course marking it mature doesn't change the way search engines rank it, except that it loses the benefit of the WordPress tag system. Methinks the technorati tag system would still pick up on it, though.
