Positioning Photos

    Is there a more granular way to place photos in a blog? I'm using a Mac and working within Safari. I can't position photos in the exact place I'd like. How do I get more precise control of where the photos are placed?

    Hello there,
    Why don’t my images align the way I want them to?
    The alignment icons in the WordPress editor are for aligning text; they are not for aligning images. They are used to achieve wrapping text around images on either the right or left hand side, or to display an image that’s centered without text on either side of it. If the text beside the images does not occupy the same amount of space that the image beside it does then the text wrapping will continue and the images and text that follow will have a staggered appearance.

    • Align-left means position left, with the rest of the content wrapping around the right side of the image.
    • Align-right means position right, with the rest of the content wrapping around the left side of the image.
    • Align-center means position center, with no wrap-around (= the rest of the content below the image).
    • if you want your images to be side by side on the same line start by setting the alignment of all three images to left. http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-alignment/#side-by-side

    To prevent the staggered effect what you do is insert the following snippet of code into the HTML editor after each image/text pair:

    P.S. Above I said "three images" but, of course, the number and size of the images must fit into the maximum displayed image width for your theme.

    oh this is great! I too have been struggling with photo placement. so...I'm guessing that perhaps using HTML you have more options then? I did once start to learn HTML. perhaps I'll get back to that.

    I'm so glad I was able to provide what you needed. You ddon't have more options in the sense of buttons to click but if you have coding knowledge you can switch to the HTML editor and use it. Best wishes with your blog. :)

    Thanks for your help. While I have geek tendencies, I'm also not offended by point and click applications. My goal is to put 95% of time into writing. With the state of the available apps, I feel I'm spending 50% of my time fussing with laying out my entries. I yearn for the simplicty of iWeb on my Mac when it comes to laying out a blog. I'm guessing there isn't much of a market for a decent app that does all the work for me!

    Well...WordPress is free. I guess I don't have much room for complaints. :-)
