Post Editing Has Gone Bonkers

The toolbars in WordPress have gone absolutely bonkers.

    Look at this page.

    http://anonw.wordpress.com/2011/11/18/an-unfair-playing-field/

The list at the bottom needs to be an ordered list. When I select the bottom ten lines or so, to do this and then select the ordered list button in the toolbar, it immediately changes to italic and if I click it, the text goes italic. Other buttons ave dual behaviour.

To make matters worse, if I click edit on a post, I need to switch between Visual and HTML mode a couple of times to see the post.

I had a serious stroke last year. Is WordPress trying to get me to have another one now?

The blog I need help with is anonw.wordpress.com.

  2. Will you please provide us with some details so we can try to help you?

    1. How are you connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com? The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers.

    2. Are you using http:// or https:// see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

3.Which browser and version of it are you using?

    4. Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050

    5. Is your browser version up to date? You can upgrade any browser version here.

    6. Do you have third party cookies enabled?

    7. Do you have JavaScript enabled?

    8. Do you have another browser you can try?

    1. I'm using broadband through BT and have done for about six months. The computer I use is an HP Compac 6720s and is about three years old. Nearly all of my blog posts have been made with this machine. All the other web sites and systems I use work well.

    2. http://

    3. IE 8

    4. Yes.

    5. Yes

    6. Of course.

    7.. Of course.

    8. No! However, I did use my Iconia running IE8 to make changes.

All of these problems started and there seems to have been many started when you updated the image upload. That was just after I bought a space upgrade.

Here's a video of the behaviour of the icons in the toolbar.

  5. It looks like a browser caching problem. Your browser is displaying the wrong images instead of the hover-over images it should do. I don't know whey clearing te cache doesn't work.

  6. I agree with tandava108. Please log out of WordPress.com, clear your browser cache and cookies, and reboot your computer and then log-in again.

P.S. I'm on windows XP too and cannot upgrade to IE. However, that has zero affect on my blogging because I use a Firefox 8 browser and it works very well.

timethief: Why is WordPress so opposed to IE? Certainly it is the best browser out there, but everyone here seems to have a chip on their shoulder about it.

I need to have IE as the default browser, as I have software I wrote and use that depends on that.

The reason people don't like IE and Windows is just pure prejudice. Let's face it, they are the most common out there and if you go into an Internet cafe and post like I do, that's all you've got.

If you thing that IE is the best browser out there then in Cancuck fashion I challenge you to prove that to me and back it up with authoritative links from experts.. Every web developer and web designer I know and they are not few in number disagrees entirely with your statement.

I'm sorry that's the case for you. The reality is that I have a browser that works and you have one that doesn't work. You will have to contact Staff. Here’s the link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ After you use the searchbox, under the search results, at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

I would never say it is the best browser, but it is the most numerous. Look at the web access statitics for any web site and you'll see that most people use it.

After all, in the UK, we know that it is better to drive on the left hand side of the road, as you can draw your sword quicker on a horse. But we don't tell other people who buy our cars to have the steering wheel on the right. So no web site can insist that it can only be accessed by a specific browser. Just imagine, if Amazon's on-line shop said, that you should access it with Chrome. It would be commercial suicide.

  14. browser use stats > http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp
    October 2011
    Firefox 38.7 %
    Chrome 32.3 %
    Internet Explorer 21.7 %
    Safari 4.2 %
    Opera 2.4 %

  15. All I did was ask a polite question:

Would you be willing for downland another browser and try using it?
    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
    http://www.google.com/chrome

When your replied I have you the link to contact Staff with:

  16. P.S. I do apologize for the typos and grammar errors above. I'm visually challenged and I don't always "see" the mistakes I make prior to clicking "submit".

Of course not! I can get round it with difficulty, but it would be more difficult to change everything else.

If I wait long enough, the solution will solve itself. Either a piece of rogue software on my machine will be upgraded or WordPress will find the bug.

Did you use the link I provided create a detailed support ticket for Staff? I sure hope you did because this is a peer support forum. Staff only monitor these threads. We Volunteers answer questions. We don't have backend access. We cannot apply technical fixes of any kind - only Staff can.

I haven't yet, as I want to check a lot of things first. It's also getting a bit late for me, and I need to do some things before I go to bed.

  20. Sleep well and I hope you awake, boot your computer and experience a miracle, if you know what I mean. :)
