Post format type switching from standard to image

  1. I only post pictures to my blog and I want the posts to use the standard format type. Something has changed recently in WordPress that is causing the post to switch to image even if I have the "standard" format type selected. It's extremely annoying.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem and is there a fix?

The blog I need help with is thedailycharlie.wordpress.com.

  2. I'm having a similar problem...no one has responded to my thread question either.

  3. @seecharlie
Thanks for the report. This thread will be moved to the Themes Forum where Themes Staff will address this issue.

You are using a different theme. Please return to your own thread which is likewise flagged for Staff attention.

  5. Howdy @seecharlie, I see that your posts no longer have the Image post format. Did you find a fix?

  6. Nope, after publishing each post I go back in and change the post type to "Standard". That's why they're no longer the image type.

I'd be surprised if this isn't reproducible - if you create a standard type post without a title or text content and add only a single image does it not switch to image type for you? If it doesn't I can provide detailed steps about my posting process.

This did not happen until a month or two ago so I'm thinking something changed in a wordpress update.

  7. Hi @seecharlie, yes, you're correct; posts that contain only an image and lack a title or other text content will automatically be marked with the Image post format. The fix is to switch them back to Standard after publishing if you don't want to use that format.

  8. That's unfortunate, as it changes the style of the post. Can this be submitted as a bug so it's recorded and possibly changed in a future release? It shouldn't be making changes to your post without warning or any way to override those modifications.

  9. This was an intentional change, but we appreciate your feedback, and I'll make sure to pass it along. Thank you!

  10. Thanks for your help six!

  11. @sixhours - Add me to those who don't want WordPress.com choosing my post format for me. Thank you.

  12. This was an intentional change, but

Really bad decision - see my remarks some time back on Infinite Scroll

Automatic where some programmer knows better what I want to do is real bad and an insult to all bloggers - people choose the format for many reasons - now making it harder to blog is not good
