posting comments

    Hi :)

    I have just started my blog and I don't know how to set my options for the comments area. I would like to be able to approve the comments before they are visible, but I do not wish to allow only readers registered at WordPress to leave comments. If this is possible,how can I do that? I don't seem to be able to find how to set my Options to allow people to write a comment without being registered first. I read the FAQ but don't seem to find the answer...

    1. Options->General Options->Membership: make sure this box is not checked, click "Update Options"

    2. Options->Discussion->Before a comment appears:->An administrator must always approve the comment: make sure this box is checked, click "Update Options"

    Dashboard -> Options -> Discussion -> Check the box labeled "An administrator must always approve the comment" and uncheck the box labeled "Comment author must have a previously approved comment" Click on Save Changes.

    Dashboard -> Options -> General -> Uncheck the box labeled "Users must be registered and logged in to comment"

    very helpful! I accidentally checked the membership box and my comments went drastically down! Thanks!

    I changed my options to the above recommendations and lost a comment that I had approved. How can I get it to show up?

    If an approved comment has disappeared, you might be able to find it in Dashboard > Comments and see if it's been unapproved. It might also be worth checking to see if it's been labelled as spam for some reason in Dashboard > Comments > Akismet Spam.

    If it's been deleted, though, I don't think you can get it back. Maybe do a Google or Yahoo search for that post and see if there's a cached comment; if it's there, you could copy it as a new comment. That's one reason why I always get comment notifications by email; I file them away, and if I ever lose any comments I always have that copy I can use.
