This is probably a really stupid question, but can't find the answer anywhere.
I've set up various headings using pages, but when i go to the menu section, the Post Box isn't there. Under 'Theme Locations' it goes 'Custom Links' then 'Pages'.
I'm the only admin.

You're not stupid, you're just not familiar with the ways WP hides things...
While in Appearance > Menus, click Screen Options (top right) to enable the Posts module.
