Posts not showing up on reader

  1. Hi,

Some of my posts have not been showing up in the reader, either as they are tagged and even on the feeds of followers.

    This is my blog: http://reallyshortstoriesbymads.wordpress.com/

    Thanks so much!
    Mads

The blog I need help with is reallyshortstoriesbymads.wordpress.com.

  2. I'm sorry you're having trouble with this. However, I see your most recent post in the Reader: https://i.cloudup.com/fUgBZpAp6i.png

Please note that if you use popular tags or categories, it's possible that while your post will appear, others will follow and your post will be pushed down lower in the Reader, and it can be easy to miss it.

Without knowing which post may be missing, it's a good idea to make sure you don't have a combined total of more than 15 tags + categories, as that's the most common reason why a post may not appear in the Reader.

  3. I am having the same problem.
    I have just posted a recipe, http://jabberwockystew.wordpress.com/2014/02/01/karls-rotkohl-ii/
and, while it appeared on my blog, it does not appear in any of my most common tags in the reader.
I have read your troubleshooting link and none of those problems seem to apply.
I have had this problem several times in the past and by deleting and re-posting the tags i have been able to eventually get them to appear, but this is a rather cludgy solution.
    Any suggestions ?

  4. karllueck, I just looked at your post and you have 18 categories and tags combined. The limit is 15. Some are duplicates such as vegan and vegetarian. You only need to use these once.

Besides organizing posts, the purpose of Categories (tags) is for others to find your blog through the Reader. Try to use categories people will search for. California and German cuisines are good for searches, but I am not sure many would use "other vegetables".

Prior to WP's omnisearch, I used categories and tags for my own use to find old posts, but now I just use their search to find what I need. I ended up deleting all the excess categories to clean things up.

  5. Hi there,

I'm experiencing the same problem where I post something with a category/tag, and it doesn't show up in the reader under that word. When I first started blogging I didn't have this problem, but with my last two posts I've noticed it.

    My latest post is: http://charisselaine.wordpress.com/2014/02/03/summer-style-nail-colours/

I've read a number of other discussions in the WordPress Forums and I've also read the Support section: "Tags in the Reader", however none of the solutions seem to be helping.

I'd greatly appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

  6. The problem is that the "limit of 15" includes both categories and tags, not just tags. I know they do not make that very clear.

Try dropping some of your categories and tags and do not put the same words in both your categories and tags.

The reader will list any word in either, so I am not sure why they set it up as two lists.

  7. The reader will list any word in either, so I am not sure why they set it up as two lists.

I've wondered the same thing. Other blogging sites I've used just have one or the other, not both. And really, if you think about it, when you have a public blog, just use good keywords within the post itself. People will find your site through the search engines. I've gained a handful of followers that way. Search engines look at the whole post, not just categories.

I've dropped my category usage since I was just getting spammer follows when I used popular categories and very few others who actually came to my blog from them.

  8. Categories and tags can be used in different ways for organizing content. They are treated the same, and the count combined, for the purposes of displaying in the Reader.

This document may be helpful to better understand the difference: http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories-vs-tags/

I am experiencing the same problem. http://www.princesstopattycake.com

I would greatly appreciate any help as well!

  10. Both the categories and tags count against your 15 limit. If you have more than 15 tags and categories non of them will show up until you eliminate the extras. Their instructions do not make this very clear.

  11. @princesstopattycake please post more specifics on your issue. Are none of your posts showing up in the Reader? Just certain ones? Certain tags/categories?

@jackiedana two weeks ago it only showed up in couple of the tags, this week it didn't show up in any. The word press staffer said that there wasn't anything out of the ordinary about the posts. He suggested to tag it with something unusual on the next one to see if it shows up. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you might have.

  13. @princesstopattycake please keep an eye on this, and if it happens again, let me know right away with a link to the post that's not showing up in the Reader, and I'll take a look.
