Premium themes and subscriptions when moving blogs

    Hi.

I have a blog (carlosrgomez.wordpress.com), for which I purchased a Premium theme (Basic Maths). Now I have created another blog (bothendspartners.wordpress.com), into which I have imported the xml file that I previously exported from the first blog. The objective is to delete the first blog, and to start using the second one instead, with the same contents.

Question #1. Can't I use the purchased theme of my first (and to-be-deleted) blog, into the second one (without paying extra)?

Question #2. Did the export/import action also transferred all the subscriptions from the first to the second blog?

    Thank you
    Carlos.

The blog I need help with is carlosrgomez.wordpress.com.

  2. Question #1. Can't I use the purchased theme of my first (and to-be-deleted) blog, into the second one (without paying extra)?

No. All upgrades are for one blog only.

Question #2. Did the export/import action also transferred all the subscriptions from the first to the second blog?

No it did not. You have to install and activate JetPack on your WordPress.org site and provide both URLs to Staff in this thread and they will move subscribers for you.

    Thank you!

  4. Hi there - just to clarify, we can actually move a premium theme from one WordPress.com site to another, so just let us know when you're ready and we can do the transfer for you.

Transferring the contents of one WordPress.com site to another doesn't move its subscribers and followers. If you'd like us to do that for you, just let us know whenever you're ready. You don't need Jetpack as long as the two sites are both on WordPress.com, which is what it looks like.

Just let me know if you have any other questions.

    Hi Kathryn.
    Good news then!
Please, yes, proceed with both the move of the Basic Maths premium theme and of followers and subscribers, from carlosrgomez.wordpress.com to bothendpartners.wordpress.com.
Will I receive a notification when this is done?
    Thanks!
    Carlos.

  6. Basic Maths has been moved over and is now active on your new site. Your email subscribers and WordPress.com followers have also been transferred.

Just let us know if you need anything else.

    That's great, thank you.

And yes, I have another question. In the Basic Maths theme, either the categories (by default), or the tags, appear in the second top line, below the menu. Well, I would like that categories and tags do not appear at all in that top line. Except in the 'Blog' page that I plan to create, so I can have several other customised pages. Can I do that?

    Regards,
    Carlos.

  8. If you're looking to remove this section on certain pages:

... that can be done with a bit of custom CSS and the Custom Design upgrade. I'd be glad to provide you with the necessary CSS code if you decide to get the upgrade.

Hi Kathryn. I will live without it for now.
    Thank you!
    Carlos.

Hi Kathryn, maybe you can help me with something else.
I am trying to nest pages, but they don't seem to be displayed properly.
I have a Home page, and a Vision & Mission page. I have made Home to be the parent of Vision & Vision, but the top line in my Basic Maths blog does not display the Vision & Mission page underneath Home.
    Do you know why?
    Thanks,
    Carlos.

  11. Hi there, your menu isn't following your page structure at the moment because you've created a custom menu. When you have a custom menu assigned to your theme, it overrides the default one, which is based on your page structure.

If you'd like to see how your default menu looks, you can de-select your custom menu by choosing the blank line here:

Hi. Thanks. Now it works. Btw, submenus don't seem to work for the Home page, yes they do for any other page.
Just to confirm, when you made my second blog (bothendspartners.wordpress.com) adopt the Basic Maths theme and the followers of my first blog (carlosrgomez.w...), I suppose that the followers are also and still in the carlosrgomez.w... one, aren't they?
    Thanks!
    Carlos.

  13. Btw, submenus don't seem to work for the Home page, yes they do for any other page.

You've currently set your latest blog posts to be displayed on your site's front page, so that's the reason you won't be able to assign a sub-menu to it at the moment using the default menu. When the latest blog posts are assigned to the homepage, there isn't a way to assign WordPress Pages as its "children" - because the homepage doesn't exist in the Pages section and can't be selected as a page "parent."

If you need the homepage to both display your latest blog posts and to have sub-pages, you could set up a Custom Menu with whatever structure you like, including child pages on the homepage, which will generate a drop-down menu.

Just to confirm, when you made my second blog (bothendspartners.wordpress.com) adopt the Basic Maths theme and the followers of my first blog (carlosrgomez.w...), I suppose that the followers are also and still in the carlosrgomez.w... one, aren't they?

When we transfer followers from WordPress.com to Jetpack, the email followers are removed from the original site. The WordPress.com followers remain.

Let me know if you need any further help.

    Ok, thanks.

    Carlos.

  15. Hi Kathryn, I'm in the same boat!

I currently have my blog Blind-Stab.wordpress.com but want to change it to dothehotpants.wordpress.com

I would like to transfer my followers, and my premium theme.

Also, I paid for my wordpress blog to forward to another domain (blind-stab.com) I would like dothehotpants to forward to dothehotpants.com that I also own. Can you transfer the domain subscription I already paid for on wordpress?

  16. blindstab - we'd be glad to help. Could you please start a new thread to describe your issue in detail, and add the word modlook in the Tags section in the right column so Staff will respond. Thanks!

    Hi Kathryn,

I wish to consolidate my two blogs (carlosrgomez.wordpress.com and bothendspartners.wordpress.com) into one that I have already just created (geobusinesses.wordpress.com).
Could you please transfer the Maths premium theme, as well as the subscriptions, to the new one?
Once done, I will transfer my blog posts, and deleted the old domains.

    Thanks,
    Carlos.

  18. Hi there, you can transfer your premium theme by logging into your dashboard on carlosrgomez.wordpress.com and heading to Store > My Upgrades:

    https://carlosrgomez.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades

Click "Transfer to another site" and follow the prompts to transfer it to your new site.

I also transferred your subscribers from carlosrgomez.wordpress.com and bothendspartners.wordpress.com to geobusinesses.wordpress.com.

Let me know if you need anything else.

The system tells me to deactivate first the theme from the original blog, before trying to transfer it to the new one.
    How can I do this?
    Thanks
    Carlos.

  20. Hi there - you can do that by just selecting a different theme on the original blog.
