   I wanted to auto-renew my domain name and it says that it is $26 per year, but a new mapping and domain is only $18 per year. Why is this?

   $26 includes $8 for private domain registration. Private domain registration allows you to set up a new domain name without making any of your contact information public. You can see more information about it here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/#public-versus-private

   $8 is on top of the 18? If i want to renew but not with a private domain, is this possible?

   Yes, I can remove the Private Domain Registration for you if you'd like.
