Privacy controls: work sensitive information/google search disable?

  1. I recently got in some trouble with my workplace because my blog came up #1 for several of our keyword relevant searches. I looked into password protected blogs but most of them required people to register, which I know realistically will reduce ease of accessibility and readership. I would love if I could make it so only people with the URL can access my blog...is this possible? Much appreciated!

The blog I need help with is ruralnigeria.wordpress.com.

  2. Yes. See 3. here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
Also note that Google only flushes their caches every 3 - 6 months so the indexed content is not going to disappear quickly from search results.

  3. thank you! what does it mean "flushes their caches"...?

  4. It means that whatever they have indexed from your site will not be removed from the search reults for at least 3 - 6 months and in some cases it may not be removed at all.

  5. The site linked to your name is empty - but on what ever your REAL site is you can put a link to work or wherever - so people that do come to your site because of a search engine have a link to get more info or something

i don't want to link my job to my blog. I want to speak openly about my work and experience...i do NOT want google to display my blog in a search..

  7. Keep in mind that Google is not the only search engine and not all search engines are well behaved - the reality of the internet is that it is open - so just because Google will drop your site from their cache not all search engines will -

Bottom line - if you want something to be private don't put it on the internet and if you do have a Private members only blog - which defeats your want to speak out

thanks a ton. makes sense. whew, this internet is a crazy place
