Privacy settings - public vs. private

Under the settings>privacy heading, I have chosen I would like my site to be private. When I write a post, I was asked about the visibility and I again chose private. I invited a friend to read the blog. She said that she created an account but could not see any of my posts. I changed one from private to password protected and she was able to see that one. Do I have to password protect each post if my account settings are set to private? If the account is set to private can the visibility be set to public without the public seeing?

The blog I need help with is babyknodel.wordpress.com.

If your blog is set as private, you don't need to make the posts private. If the post is private, only you can ever see it.

Set the blog as private. Then only the people you literally Invite can read it.

I have another question: I also have a private blog and I would like to invite people I know to read it. How many persons am I allowed to invite? Is there a maximum amount?

I don´t have any upgrade and if possible I would like not to buy it.

There is no limit to the number of people you can invite, but you can invite them only 10 at a time.
