Problem in importing Xanga content to WordPress

  1. I have uploaded several files from xanga to WordPress successfully, but received one email saying import failed.

From Dashboard- Tools- Import- WordPress, I stucked at "Processing..." for over 24 hours.

The blog I need help with is dn711.wordpress.com.

  2. Not to worry. I'll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

    me too.

  4. @dn711, I have manually reset your blog importer. You should be able to try your import again.

For further instructions on how to do a Xanga import, please see: http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/import-from-xanga/

@purpleazndragon, please do not post in multiple threads with the same issue. I have answered you here: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-manually-cancel-the-import-process

    Thank you so much!!

  6. You're very welcome.

  7. could you reset mine? it says "This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number"

  8. sunshyne2oo5, I do not see any imports attempted for the blog sunshyne2oo5.wordpress.com. It may be you were trying to import the wrong file, or were using the wrong importer.

Please see our instructions for Xanga imports here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/import-from-xanga/

I have an importer question. Sort of a fine print thing. How does the importer work? I can understand the convert the data from one format to another, index it in some manor that makes sense. But in this case the importer needed to be reset, so as to not damage the blog the import going into, implies some sort of copy of the import info, or a complete backup copy of the original blog where the files are swapped after it has been verified that everything is correct.

    Thanks for any info

  10. @auxclass, generally speaking the importer is bringing in the content from one database or file and translating it so that the content can be applied to our own database. In almost every case resetting the attempt resolves the issue. In my experience when this happens there's nothing wrong with either file, the process just hangs and needs to be restarted.

  11. thanks

I've imported a file in using the importer method from Xanga, but afterwards I cannot seem to see where it got imported to. I got the email saying the import was successful, clicked on the link to my blog, and see nothing new imported. Any guidance?

    Thanks,

  13. @angelleung, did you import all of the files from your export folder? Until all are successfully imported, the import will not show up on WordPress.com.
