Problem with contact info widget

  1. We just started using the confit theme and I was trying to set up the Contact Info widget. We are in a building with multiple businesses. We have a google places entry and if you type our company name and address into google maps, our listing comes up.

If I just put our street address in the address field, the map displays properly in the widget and the link below takes you to the address but only lists an old business that is closed.

If I include our company name and address:
    Petaluma Pie Company
    125 Petaluma Blvd North
    Petaluma, CA 94952

The link below takes you to the correct google listing and map page, BUT the map on the widget shows a location SEVERAL BLOCKS AWAY. I think this must be an issue with the widget. I have tried multiple browsers.

Any ideas how to fix it?

The blog I need help with is petalumapie.wordpress.com.

  2. I think it may be more likely an issue with Google Maps. When I try that widget on my test blog in Confit, it also shows an odd location a bit away from where I work. We have a Google places entry as well.

    Your pies look soooo good!

  3. Thank you for the response and for the compliment on the pies. But who makes the widget? Is it google or wordpress? We embedded a map on our directions page https://www.petalumapie.com/directions.html and it works fine.

  4. Sorry. That particular widget is not a regular widget for most themes. I will modlook this thread so staff can give you more details.

I ended up using a text widget to embed a map on our work site: I made the map myself with details. But this is wp.org. On our wp.com blog, I just use the Google map and rely on the directions for folks to find us.

That's why I say it is probably something on Google maps side of that widget. Even looking for my home address, the little street guy is off a few blocks and Google says that the address is approximate.

  5. It's a touchy interface from Google - what we've found most successful is if you enter your address into Google Maps, and then take whatever it actually shows you (so, if you have to move around streetview quite a bit, put that address into the map rather than the true address), but use your true address, obviously, in the text.

I hope that helps, but please let me know if you'd like me to walk you through these steps!

  6. I'd love to see how to do that, Zandyring. I have also some issues with the map in this widget.

  7. lecosistlys, if you could link to your blog, I would be happy to take a closer look and perhaps help set you up.

    Cheers!

  8. Sure, I am working for a restaurant in France and here is the wordpress URL: lecosistlys.wordpress.com.
As you can see, the google maps doesn't who the location of the restaurant. It works only if I erase the 3-4 lines after the opening hours in the text box underneath the map. Very strange.
Two more bugs that I discovered recently:
    - if you add an image to a meal in the menu, it will show fine on computers and tablets, but not on mobile devices such as iPhone. The picture will shift the text on the right and this text will appear on top of the rest of the text.
    - the mobile version on iPhone doesn't show the list of meals from the menu.
    Hope this helps !
    G

  9. I added "USA" to the end of my address and it started working properly. Thought this might help.

  10. Thanks, but for a restaurant based in France I rather don't put "USA" in the address. In the mean time, I got it working but only if I restrict myself in the opening hours section to 7-8 lines maximum. Not sure who this is related, but just wanted to clarify this.

  11. lecosistlys - for the non-map-related issues with Confit, would you mind please starting a new thread in the Themes forum to describe the issues in detail? Just add modlook in the Tags section in the right column so Staff will respond. It'll be easier to help you with those issues in a separate thread. If you can provide screenshots too, that would be very helpful for troubleshooting.

We'll continue to look at the maps issue here. Thanks!

  12. petalumapie - I don't see the contact widget on either of these two sites:
    http://petalumapiecompany.wordpress.com/
    http://petalumapie.wordpress.com/

Could you please provide a link to the page where the widget isn't showing the right location, so I can take a look? Thanks!

  13. lecosistlys - just to be clear, the location I currently see on the map is correct, right?

Are you saying that the problem occurs only when there is more text in the "Hours" box than what's there now?

Ouvert le midi mardi, mercredi, jeudi, vendredi de 12H00 à 14H00. Le soir du mardi au samedi à partir 18H30 sur place et à emporter.

Would it be possible to add some extra text to show me what's happening - or at least provide a screenshot - since I haven't been able to replicate this yet on a test site. Thanks!

Here's a guide on how to make a screenshot, if you're not sure: http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/

You can upload the screenshot in your Media Library and then post a link so I can see it.

  14. Hi kathrynwp,

We are not using confit anymore. I don't know if that particular contact info widget is available outside of confit. If it is, I could give it another try. We just wound up using another map widget.

  15. petalumapie - the Contact Info widget is available in all WordPress.com themes. Just let me know if you still need any help with it and provide a link so I can take a look. Thanks!

  16. We are using a theme called Pinboard, which is not a wordpress theme. Is it available as a plugin or something?

  17. The contact info widget in question - as well as this support forum - is for WordPress.com sites only. Is your site on WordPress.com?
