Problem with Reading Settings: Can't indicate Posts Page

  1. I am trying to change the home page of my site to be a static page. I have gone into Reading Settings and indicated I want to set the Front Page to display a static page. But when I click on the drop down menu to select which will be my posts page there is only one page available and that happens to be the static page. How do I select what the posts page will be? The posts are there. I have done this before without problem. Not sure what I have done wrong here and suggestions are very welcome!!

p.s. I have tried doing this using both Safari and Chrome, so I don't think this is a browser issue.

The blog I need help with is clotelavivclassifieds.wordpress.com.

  2. This is where up set up one page to be your Home page and one page to displays all your blog posts. Settings > Reading
    Reading Settings
    Front page displays
    __Your latest posts

    __A static page (select below)
    __ Front page:
    __ Posts page:

Blog pages show at most__ posts

Pages are static. They sit outside of the blog structure and you cannot post to multiple pages in any blog. There is only one main page for posts in a blog and all posts will show on the main blog page. There is no way to exclude posts from the main posts (blog) page. By default the page for post is the front or Home page of the blog. If you do not want all the posts to show on the main page, then you can create a static front page for your site.
    Choice 1 static front page.
Choice 2 running page for all posts on front page.

Which do you choose? It’s one or the other. If you choose Choice 1 static front page then you have to create two pages. One for the static front page which you can call anything you choose example “Welcome”, and one for the blog posts to appear on which you can call anything you choose example “Blog”. After your do that you go here . Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

  3. Hi Time Thief,

Thanks for your response. Yes, I have done this before on different wordpress sites but have only had a problem with this site. I have created two pages. One is static and the other is for Posts. In the Reading Settings I choose make Front Page the Static Page. In the drop down menu for Front Page I can choose the Static Page. BUT when I go to the drop down menu for the Posts Page I only see the Static Page.

I have since created a workaround by using custom menus. I will check back into this in a few days. I'm out of town till Sunday with limited internet connection.
