Problem wuith Changing Themes

  • Hello,

I have just created a new blog, and am trying to change the site them.
I’ve been through the process a number of times, however, after selecting
and viewing a theme, the “Activate Theme” link that is spoken of in the
    FAQ, is never made available.

Does anybody now why, or how to properly get one of these themes activateed?

    Thank you!

  • If you are talking about this blog http://searchengineleap.com/ you are in the wrong forum as that site is not hosted here at wordpress.COM. Head over to http://wordpress.ORG/support

  • Thank you, but no… actually I have created this new BLOG for one of our clients:

    http://drbrent.wordpress.com

So… continuing my investigation into this problem, I did View->Source on the page that pops up when I click on any theme… searched for the “missing” “Activate” button.

The link to activate DOES appear to be there in the theme display page HTML code, even if not displayed.

However, when I attempt to copy/paste said activation code and run it directly… I get simple text only page that says: “You are not authorized to use that theme.”

I similarly get this for ANY theme.

    What am I missing here?

  • Thanks for the link. And consider linking the blog to your user name as explained in the sticky, 8 Things, at the top of the forums. It will make it easier for volunteers in forums to help you.

When you view the themes, you should see the Activate button in the upper right corner. What browser are you using?

  • Ahh… after further review… I have discovered the problem.

I was attempting to edit/update the BLOG using IE 8 Beta 2

Which has arrived with it’s own host of unfortunate bugs,
in this case being the non-display ( for whatever reason )
    of said “Activate” link.

    Worked fine in FireFox 3.0.3

For those wondering… installing IE 8 Beta is, as of yet,
NOT a good idea. Most will be displeased with the variety
    of unanticipated consequences… *sigh*

    Thank you,

    James

  • Thank you Vivian… you’re right, I should have and will review the 8 Things and make appropriate updates.

    Regards,

    James

  • Generally speaking, the best browser to use with wordpress.COM is Firefox. And when you can’t find a screen or something like that which is mentioned in the FAQ, it’s usually a browser issue.

  • In case anyone is interested, IE8 instead of getting better as the beta cycle continues has actually gotten worse and now has 190 reported bugs.
