promoting outside of wordpress

  1. how do you promote your blog outside of wordpress?

what has had the biggest impact so far?

  2. one thing that I think can really help is to have your email at the domain (if you have domain mapping). that way, you are promoting your blog without even having to mention it. also, you can post in other blogs that have a similar focus and leave your site address there. another way is to post on msg boards and also, to straight out contact people who you think may enjoy it. for example, if your blog is about recycling, you could contact environmentally focused organizations, who could then forward the email to their members. picking appropriate tags for posts promotes it better in google as well. word-of-mouth..err..or word-of-Internet seems to be good too...so the better quality content you have-those you reach then tell friends..etc..and so forth.

  3. Promoting your blog within the wordpress.com community and anywhere else you comment on a blog using your wordpress.com username will not be successful if you do not link your username to your blog.

Until you link your wordpress.com username to your blog then any traffic that could have been gained by another blogger clicking on your username is lost. Your username is linked to an "esty" store. And leaving this store linked to your wordpress.com username is like shooting yourself in the foot.

I just clicked on it and if it had been connected to your blog then your would have had a hit instead it scored ZERO.

We all have two profiles at wordpress.com. One on our blogs and one here in the forum.

Here’s how to link your username to your blog in your blog -> Users -> Profile
In the right hand column locate “Website” and type in the link to your wordpresss.com blog example: http://myblog.wordpress.com

Linking your username to your wp.com blog in the forum
    (1) Go up to the top right hand corner of this forum page and look for “Welcome,_________ ! View your profile” and click “View your profile”.

    (2) Next click “edit this information”.

    (3) Complete the fields being sure that where it says website that you enter http://insertyourblognamehere.wordpress.com (no period at the end or the link won’t work)

    (4) Once you’re done click “Update Profile”. Voila! Now every time you sign into the forum we can click on your username and your blog will be linked to it.

    (5) Also note that there is a complete record of every post that you make to the forum on your forum profile page. Everyone in the forum can access it by simply clicking on “Member” next to your username.

Promoting traffic to your blog suggestions can be found in the FAQs and in the forum searchbox

  4. Well I see you're already listed on Google. So that step is already out of the way. But alot of my traffic is from link exchanges on similar type blogs on each other's blogrolls.

  5. @tt. thanks. i changed it in both. i didn't realize that's what happened!

i have my blog in my signature for email, i have the blog link in my store on etsy, and have been linked by some great blogs. i also added my info to technorati and other blog search engines as suggested before.

just wondering if there other things that people have been doing. thanks so far for the responses!

  6. @suburose
Yay! I clicked on your username and your blog got a hit. :)

  7. woo hoo! thanks. :-)

  8. @suburose
Have you considered joining social networks like stumbleupon, reddit, digg, etc.?

  9. StumbleUpon does great traffic for me. If you can find a networking community (such as Ballhype or Yardbarker for sports), that helps as well.
Carnivals help too - check this out to see if there's a carnival that suits you:

    Cheers

  10. http://stumbleupon.com is great

generally it's all about networking and forming relationships with other bloggers

they read yours, you read theirs, you link to each other every now and then
