Public chat widget for WordPress.com?

    I'd like to add a chat box that many people can use to talk to each other. Meebo doesn't seem to have a public chat option. Are there any widgets that would let me do this, or is there a way to install a plugin into a WordPress.com site?

    other than that, we can't use plugins here on WordPress.com For that you'd have to self-host with the free WordPress.org software. See this:

    I was just wondering the same thing. I have a feeling that something like that is not available on WordPress.com, but maybe someone has a work-around.

    The meebo widget, as said above. Works fine.

    I've been playing around with Meebo, and its a great addition. For what I'm using it for, I think this will work fine.

    It's good to know the meebo widget will work for you. FWIW we can also use Google chatback. To use chatback you must have a Google Talk account … but your visitors don’t have to! They don’t even need to have an email address, or to have ever used instant messaging. See How to: Google Talk badge on wordpress.com

    You may use any third party widget provided it's not an iframe or Javascript > http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
