Questions about Menu/Header/Theme Editing

  1. I am helping my friend organize her blog
    http://www.staceymorris.com
    She has a self-hosted version of WordPress.

    I want to make changes to the menu across the top of the home page.
    I want to change the background of each individual item by adding this code to the Delicate: Stylesheet (style.css)

    `li.page-item-3 {
    background: #9933CC !important;
    }

    However, I can't figure out how to change the colour of the "Home" or "Stacey Morris" buttons.
    Also, how can I change the font colour and font style of those buttons and align the text to the center (the menu items seem to be aligned right when I put a background colour in at the moment).

    Finally, for the header, how I can drop the text bar where it says "RECOVERING FROM AMERICA'S CULTURE OF EXCESS, ONE RECIPE AT A TIME" so that it's not cutting through the face on the header image.

    Please be explicit about what to type and where to type it... that one bit of code is the sum-total of my knowledge of CSS/HTML!!!

    Thanks!

    The blog I need help with is myddpyogajourney.com.

    We do NOT provide support for WordPress>ORG software installs at WordPress>COM. We provide support only for free hosted WordPress.COM blogs being hosted right here on this multiuser blogging platform. You are posting to the wrong support forum.

    WordPress.com and WordPress.org have different log-ins and run different versions of themes with same names. If you don't have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.
