Questions: Blogs, tags, user name

  1. I would like to set up at least two more blogs dealing with completely different issues. I understand that I can have multiple blogs but I have a couple of questions that I haven’t found answers to in the support section.

How many different blogs I can have?

Should I use the same email address or separate email addresses to set up each different blog?

Can I link one blog to the other, and the other, etc, in the sidebar?

When I write an article in one blog can I link to one/more of my other blogs in the body of the article (in case subjects cross over)?

    ---------------------

    DIFFERENT QUESTION COMPLETELY

Are tags and categories different words for one and the same thing? If not, could you please explain the difference and why I should/shouldn’t have both?

    -------------------------------------------

    LAST ISSUE (I promise LOL)

If you saw a user name of “Political PHLO” would that possible come out sounding like “Political Flo”?

The blog I need help with is flosplace.wordpress.com.

  2. Am going to give this a kick in case someone out there can help me.

  3. How many different blogs I can have?

There is no limit. You may have as many as you wish.

Should I use the same email address or separate email addresses to set up each different blog?

That's up to you. It's the email address that your register an account/ blog with that's the unique identifier. If you do not wish the blogs to be associated with the one you have and with each other then log out of wordpress.com and register them under different email addresses. See > http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

  4. Are tags and categories different words for one and the same thing? If not, could you please explain the difference and why I should/shouldn’t have both?

Tags and categories are treated exactly the same way bey search engines. They are index terms (keywords and phrases) used to index and retrieve data with. Whether you choose to use one or the other or both is up to you. See > http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories-vs-tags/

Categories are like the Chapter titles on a Table of Contents of a book. Tags are like the index terms that are found in the back pages of a book. Both are based on keywords or keyword phrases that naturally occur in any written language.

Whenever you get confused about categories and tags pretend you are in a library looking for a book on a specific topic. Ask yourself this: What words would I use to find the correct book on that topic in that library catalog?

Change the word "book" to blog and you will know how to find a blog on any specific topic by typing keywords into a search engine and getting back the results.

When you assign a minimal number of relevant categories and tags to a post you are selecting the keywords that you think other people would type into a search engine and find your blog with. They are important. Choose them carefully and do not overuse them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/global-tags/

  5. If you saw a user name of “Political PHLO” would that possible come out sounding like “Political Flo”?

No. I don't associate that proposed username/acronym with anything at all.

  6. I'm sorry it took me so long to respond, I had to leave for an hour or so. Want to thank you for you wonderful explanations. The categories/tags thing NOW makes sense. THANK YOU!! OMG, this clears up so much that I was wondering about.

"timethief" you're one of the really great ones!! Thanks!!

  7. @flosplace
    Gee ... thanks [red-faced] :)

  8. I was hoping I would get the answer to these two from the list of questions above.

"Can I link one blog to the other, and the other, etc, in the sidebar?

When I write an article in one blog can I link to one/more of my other blogs in the body of the article (in case subjects cross over)?"

  9. Yes and yes.
