Questions on Oxygen Theme: Help?

  1. Hello All, I have been working on editing my blog. I have some questions hoping someone will answer? Before I've come on here to asked I've already read the support page and did research etc...

    1. I want to know if, under where it says 'recent article' where I currently only have 2 articles, instead of having a long list of all your entries could we just have five? Once I start blogging a lot I don't want for example 20 articles listed, only 5 if possible.

    2. On my slide show, how do you make the photos bigger?

    3. On the top where it says "SCARLET'S TEMPER FASHION. LIFESTYLE. CREATIVITY." - Would it be possible and delete that and just have the header right on top?

    4. At the very bottom where it says "Blog at WordPress.com. | Theme: Customized Oxygen by DevPress." - Would it be possible if I could add some links on the right side, same line?

    5. At the bottom where I have an icon, where my footer widget area one is at, how do you get ride of the lines that is on top and/or on the bottom of the icon?

    Thank you very much =)

    The blog I need help with is scarletstemper.com.

    bump.

  4. Please don't add replies like "bump." I usually review by date using the latest reply timestamp and your replies will drop you to the bottom of that list. Note that other people may answer in a different order.

    Also, can you also please stick to one question per thread if possible? It helps keep like answers together, it's much easier to help if any back and forth conversation happen, and it also makes it nicer for searching through topics to look for already-answered questions later. Thank you!

    This one can't be done using CSS, it's part of the theme design and is set with the underlying PHP code. WordPress.com does not offer you an option to modify theme PHP code. If you did want to make customizations of the code though, WordPress is free software and you can download it and install it on a separate web host to get full control over all of the code. There are pros and cons for each option, check out this link to learn more: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    In general, CSS is used to adjust the appearance of things that are already on the page and does not change other types of settings like the number of posts in a given list.

  6. 2. On my slide show, how do you make the photos bigger?

    This is another customization that is based on code not CSS.

  7. 3. On the top where it says "SCARLET'S TEMPER FASHION. LIFESTYLE. CREATIVITY." - Would it be possible and delete that and just have the header right on top?

    You can hide the site title and tagline in the Oxygen theme by adding this CSS to your Appearance → Custom Design → CSS editor:

    #masthead hgroup {
    	display: none;
    }
  8. 4. At the very bottom where it says "Blog at WordPress.com. | Theme: Customized Oxygen by DevPress." - Would it be possible if I could add some links on the right side, same line?

    You can't add HTML code using CSS, but one thing you could do is add the HTML you'd like to display in a text widget and then use CSS to move it around on the page.

  9. 5. At the bottom where I have an icon, where my footer widget area one is at, how do you get ride of the lines that is on top and/or on the bottom of the icon?

    Those are borders. Oxygen sets several. One way to find them is to look through the theme's original CSS to look for all the rules mentioning "border" until you find the ones that apply to the widget and footer area. Another way to find them is to right-click on the widget or footer areas and select the "Inspect Element" then look through the CSS that appears to see where the borders are added. Once you find them, use the same selectors used by the theme and set the borders to zero. Here is an example:

    #supplementary .widget,
    #colophon  {
    	border: none;
    }
