Can someone explain why the fonts (especially the menu bar, post title) look bitmapped? Sometimes they look fine - if I move my cursor over them - but most of the time they are bitmapped and illegible.

Hmm, I'm unable to reproduce this, so I'll need a little more information about the problem to help you troubleshoot.
First, can you provide screenshots of the areas where this is happening?
Next, is this problem occurring in all browsers, or just one specific browser?
Can you temporarily switch to another theme to see if the fonts look correct?
Finally, if you have access to another computer, can you check to see if the problem still occurs?
