Reader isn't listing non-wordpress blogs

  1. As of yesterday the wordpress reader is only listing current blogs of wordpress subscriptions but is leaving off any other blogs. These are all still listed on the Blogs I follow, and I know they have updated posts.

Please fix so I don't have to stop using wordpress to read blogs, this has been really frustrating.

The blog I need help with is racilous.wordpress.com.

  2. there are other threads indicating issues with accessing the subscription page functions and specifically with being unable to "unlike" posts. Staff is aware of the situation and is looking into it. http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cant-remove-post-i-like?replies=6#post-669015

Staff have only been back from their workshop for a day so I assume they will have a lengthy backlog of support tickets to address and I also assume they will have to prioritize them. I guess that means we will have to be patient while waiting for their attention to this issue.

I am having the same exact problem. I only get updates to wordpress blogs that I follow but not to others. The blogs are still listed on the blogs I follow as well. I have not changed anything in settings or done anything unusual. This just started happening...
    Thanks for your help.

When Staff reactivate the support link on Monday please report your issue to them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ After you use the searchbox, under the search results, at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

  5. You know I went and looked long and hard at Readomattic. The only blogs I have there are the WordPress.com blogs I subscribe to.

What I see on the Readomattic: subscriptions page is:
    Add blog: ____
Enter a WordPress.com blog address, such as matt.wordpress.com
That's why I'm confounded by reading that you had subscribed to blogs that were not WordPress.com blogs.

  6. I've never heard of it either, but so many people are complaining that I guess you must have been able to subscribe before and now staff have disabled non-WP.com blogs.

These are blogs that I've chosen to follow under the "blogs I follow" title under the "me" drop down menu....I haven't officially subscribed to them....

  8. I have checked my "Blogs I Follow" under "Me" and they are all WordPress.com blogs. I cannot find a means of following any blogs that are not WordPress.com hosted blogs using the gray navigation bar "Follow" link. T went to the page in question and I clicked "edit" and then attempted to insert an blogspot URL into the appropriate spot. The result was this error message displayed on a red background in white font:

Please enter a valid blog URL

I'm flagging this thread so we can get a Staff member to definitively state whether or not this WordPress.com reader can be used ONLY for WordPress.com hosted blogs or not.

I am not sure if I am allowed to comment on this or not. (sorry if I am not) I am having the same problem as mcpersonalspace. I have subscribed to non-wordpress blogs and received notification of updates of those blogs for the last 3-4 months. I can still subscribe to non-wordpress blogs I just do not receive notification of their updates when I press "follow". The notifications stopped about a week ago. I have also seen a similar problem mentioned on the forum, in the last couple of days, by another person. The question has been removed until someone from wordpress can deal with it. I would be interested to know what the solution is.

  10. The question hasn't been removed. It probably got bumped off the front page.

LOTS of people are having this issue. Report it to staff directly via the Help button on your dashboard, but I suspect they did it deliberately.

    Hi there,
We are waiting for Staff to address this. Like most I was not even aware they did allow this function (ie. subscribing to non-Wordpress.com blogs and having them display in their readers here) to some of us users and not to others. I assume it may have been an experiment of some kind. I also recall the thread you refer to.

  12. I have been on wordpress for more than a year, I have always been able to get all blogs in my reader. Then around the beginning of August they started changing around the reader, and someplace around the 10th of August I first lost the ability to read non-wordpress blogs. A week afterward I started this thread, within a day or two the issue was resolved and I could once again read all blogs.

Then the 27th this issues started again.

I just was able to add a new non-wordpress blog to my list about five minutes ago, so I don't think it's that they discontinued allowing non-wordpress blogs or it would have given me an error.

I also think if this is new protocol I'll have to find a new reader.

  13. @racilous
This is fascinating and I'll tell you why. Both raincoaster and I have been here at WordPress.com for over 5 years. This ability to use the WordPress.com reader for blogs outside of the WordPress.com community was never announced to us members as far as I tell (I searched) and we were completely unaware that it existed at all.

Glad to know that I am not the only one who has experienced this. I was wondering why none of the non-word press bloggers weren't updating!

  15. I found the "Edit List" option and added a non-WordPress.COM site - that crashed the system and now all the "Blogs I Follow" will display is the WordPress.COM news, even after I took back out the non-WordPress.COM blog - so much for progress I guess.

The not displaying the WordPress.COM is very annoying at this point.

  16. The issue has been fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  17. I also have a problem with blogs that remains unanswered :(

  18. @batch40: Already asked and answered.
