Registered blog name that is not being used!

  1. I am looking to get candipops.wordpress.com and it is already registered, however it is clear the person who has registered it is not using it as they have not added any posts or content since 2011. Is there anythign I can do about this? Is there a certain time that the name expires in?

I ask as I have registered the domain name candipops.com and would really like to build a blog through wordpress.com and pay to have the .wordpress removed, howver I can't at the moment as someone else has taken that name but isn't using it. It's very frustrating, is there something I can do about ithis?
    Thank you!
    Candia

The blog I need help with is spillthecandi.wordpress.com.

  2. Is there a certain time that the name expires in?

    No.

Your only hope is to try and contact them and see if they're willing to transfer it to you. WP will not assist in this.

  3. PS - you can map your domain name (candipops.com) to any blog name here at WordPress.COM (i.e. to sourcandijunk.wordpress.com) - but yes having a name that matches is cool - your visitors will see your name (candipops.com) when they visit - the only time they see the underlying blog name is when they download a file or look at the information for a picture - so don't pick a real dumb name for a base

  4. Hmm I thought that might be the case. Annoying! Oh well, thank you very much for all your help!

  5. if you are not successful with making contact, then you can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

  6. Ooh yes I see what you mean. I'm going to have a look into that, thank you!

  7. You're welcome. If you are committed to blogging over the long term I recommend purchasing your own domain ASAP.
