Registered domain through WordPress but not mapping to my blog

  1. Hello,

    We have purchased the WordPress.com Premium package about a month ago but it seems we are having issues setting up the nameservers. This is the following error we receive :

    ==============
    "We checked the nameservers and it looks like they’re not pointing to WordPress.com yet. If you recently updated them please check again soon. It can take a few hours for registrars to complete update their nameservers."
    ==============

    It seems that the domain [knightbloc.com] we registered through WordPress is not registered. It appears to say it is still available in whois and is blank when checking intodns. Here are the links:

    ==============
    http://whois.net/whois/knightbloc.com

    http://www.intodns.com/knightbloc.com
    ==============

    It seems the package should come with a domain.

    Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

    The blog I need help with is knightbloc.com.

  2. It looks like the domain knightbloc.com has not been registered. You can register and associate it with your blog from your domain management screen.

    SIf you would like to register and use this domain you will first need to set up domain mapping. In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.

    See here http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

    Dashboard > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 - 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What's important during that stage is to be patient.

  5. Thanks for the response!

    Just to clarify, the WordPress blog would be knightblocentertainment.wordpress.com.

    From the whois and intodns, it seems it is not registered. However, I believe the package we have purchased should come with a domain. What I would like to know is if the package we bought comes with the registration as well or would we have to purchase that separately?

  6. This is what I see at this link: http://knightbloc.wordpress.com
    knightbloc.wordpress.com doesn’t exist

  7. Just to clarify, we would like the domain knightbloc.com to map to knightblocentertainment.wordpress.com. We have knightbloc.com as the primary domain currently. The domain should be registered through WordPress. Any advice would be appreciated.

  8. As I said above I have tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

  9. The domain name - knightbloc.com - needs to be registered, it is not a one step process - you should be able to go ahead an register the domain but the billing software is supposed to be smart enough not to charge you a second time for the registration and mapping - the package gives you some sort of credit when it comes to paying for the registration and mapping cost

  10. It looks like knightbloc.com has been mapped but not registered from the limited checking I can do -

  11. Appreciate the input!

    I think the issue is that when signing up for the package, we had the domain registered somewhere else but was it was going to expire soon. So it seems for the domain mapping, it did the following: "Mapping a domain you already own costs $13.00 per domain, per year."

    So I was wondering if we would have to cancel the domain and then re-add it for it to have the domain registered and hosted correctly. Not sure if we would get charged again for domain registration though. Also, I was wondering if we had to pay again for domain registration.

  12. When you map an existing domain you have two annual payments:
    1. pay the domain name registrar
    2. pay WordPress.com for the domain mapping

  13. Don't cancel anything - just try registering the domain name here - you should not be charged twice for domain registration - but you do need to pay someone for domain name registration - the registration is built into the bundle - if you do for some reason get charged twice the staff can fix it for you

  14. It seems in the package we purchased it comes with registration so I was wondering if we could use that. Here is the line from the site http://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/pro-bundle/ :

    "Wordpress.com Premium includes a free credit to register a new domain for your blog, or to map an existing domain you already own."

    Hopefully this helps clarify my last post better. So I was wondering if we had to purchase the domain registration again? Or would we just have to register the domain again in WordPress to map it in order to get the domain registration?

  15. yes you need to purchase the domain registration again - but since you have the bundle credit you should not need to pay again

  16. Hopefully this helps clarify my last post better. So I was wondering if we had to purchase the domain registration again? Or would we just have to register the domain again in WordPress to map it in order to get the domain registration?

    Could you try to register the domain again?

    You can go to Store > Domains on your blog's dashboard and follow the steps there.
