Remapping Domain

    My domain http://libertychick.com is currently mapped to my old WP.com blog http://flutemandy77.wordpress.com . I have since redesigned the site by creating a new blog to replace it, http://libertychick2.wordpress.com. The WP control panel won't allow me to remap my domain to my new blog; it tells me the "domain is already mapped" (to my old blog).

    How can I switch these in WordPress? I have no problem with purchasing an additional domain upgrade for the new blog if needed, but I cannot even get that far because it won't let me remap to the new blog. Any support appreciated.

    The blog I need help with is libertychick2.wordpress.com.

    Sorry - old blog is http://flutemandy.wordpress.com (no "77").

    I think I have seen the staff transfer the mapping from one blog to another - try contacting them through your control panel and ask - might save you the $ 12--

    I will also mark this for staff attention as they are stopping by to help during the holidays.

    Help please! :-) I made the purchase in order to map my blog - mopsgreentreerolla.wordpress.com over to - mopsgreentreerolla.com .

    Now neither of them open even old posts off of a Google search. Any help you could give would be really appreciated.

    Hi mopsgreentreerolla,

    http://mopsgreentreerolla.com/ appears to be working properly.

    It can take domain changes up to 72 hours (though usually much less) to propagate to your ISP. Unfortunately, we have no control over this as it all depends on how often your ISP refreshes their DNS cache.

    This the site?? It can take 24 to 72 hours for the changes to reach the far corners of the internet - the site resolves fine for me.

    I purchased a new domain eightcuts.com like you so I could map my existing eightcuts.wordpress.com but I think I must be being very stupid because I can't figure for the life of me what to do and can't find it in the help sections - I must be looking in the wrong place. The only blog that seems to redirect to the new .com is the eightcutsdotcom.wordpress.com that comes with it. Do I need to copy and paste all the old posts, and lose the comments. Apologies if this is really obvious and has been asked a gazillion times - techie noob here!

    Let me see what you're asking here.

    You bought the URL http://eightcuts.com

    You want that URL to take people to http://eightcutsdotcom.wordpress.com ?

    I'm not seeing the problem. If people click on the first link, they go to the blog IF you have purchased the Domain Mapping upgrade. You don't need to copy/paste anything.

    Have you got the upgrade? Or did you register the first URL as a completely separate site? If you did that, you need to set the WP.com blog to Private, then Export the contents from here, then Import them to the new site.

    Okay, now that I've clicked on both, I see that they both go to an empty blog. WHERE is the content that you want to show up there?

    Thanks - I bought eightcuts.com so that I could put the content of http://eightcuts.wordpress.com there, which is my existing blog. The only one that shows up as being on the same address is eightcutsdotcom.wordpress.com

    I paid $25 of which I think $12 was for mapping?

    I have no idea what you paid $25 for. Buying a domain name from WP.com AND buying mapping is only $17 altogether.

    If you look at the admin bar under My Blogs, what shows up there? I'm suspecting you were at the dashboard of http://eightcutsdotcom.wordpress.com/ when you purchased the domain mapping, in which case you applied it to THAT blog and not http://eightcuts.wordpress.com/

    If that's the case, you need to contact staff via your Dashboard Help button and get them to switch the URL to which the domain upgrade applies.

    The $8 extra was to keep my contact details private, which seemed sensible. Thank you - I'll contact support and see if that's what happens - like I say I'm not familiar at all with anything techie so confusion on my part sounds like a very likely explanation :)

    Ah, right. Yes, contact them ASAP and give them all three URLs. They can fix it for you.
