I would like to remove the footer from my site where its says

How can I do this?

You can't.
It's not permitted under site policy.
you can't., under WP policy.
sites are proudly showing that they are "proudly" powered by WordPress.
when you want to edit themes and omit the footer you will see "please leave the links intact" !!
otherwise you can a choose a theme where the footer is written in a small or semi-hidden words.
