Remove Sidebars and footers

  1. Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on some custom CSS editing for me:

The website I'm working on is vbfour.com, using the oxygen theme. I'd like to remove categories, archives, search bar, blogroll and meta from the side bars from all pages. I'd also like to remove the comments window and site blog theme information in the footer.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The blog I need help with is vbfour.com.

  2. You can likely do that by removing widgets from the sidebars. From your Dashboard go to Appearance -> Widgets. Expand the sidebar areas on the right as needed and drag the widgets out. You can save any custom widgets by dragging them to the bottom box. Hope that helps!

This is a CSS editing thread.

  4. Remove the footer and your blog will be suspended

The current policy about the footer in the support documentation:

May I remove the ‘Blog at WordPress.com’ credit in my site’s footer?
Although the Custom Design Upgrade certainly grants you the capability to hide the credit from your site’s footer, you are not permitted to do so. Even our VIP bloggers are required to maintain the credit.

  5. Actually my mistake, I see that this theme appears to have built-in sidebar content regardless of what you select. Have you purchased the upgrade to customize your theme?

When I'm trying to figure out how to customize a theme, I tend to work in Google Chrome and I'll right click on an area I'm interested in messing with and choose "Inspect Element" from the menu. This will help you figure out what which parts of the CSS you might be able to tweak to get your desired results and try out ideas.

Please do not hijack threads that others post. Please start your own thread by clicking this link > http://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization

I was trying to help not hijack the thread. Using a tool to inspect CSS and HTML can be a really helpful way to learn and experiment, at least for me.

If you want to edit the CSS to make the page full width, looks like someone had success with this:

If you just want the other widgets gone from the sidebar area, add blank Text boxes to the Primary and Secondary widgets, but that won't remove the actual sidebar space.

  8. Oh! pardon me.

  9. No problem at all! Easy to misread in the sea of threads! Cheers!

  10. Would anyone be able to tell me how to insert an image into the header of the Oxygen post?

    My website is http://www.momentscapturedyoung.com.

    Many thanks!

  11. mcyphotography, this forum is for blog using WordPress.com. On WordPress.com, you can add a header image to the Oxygen theme using the Appearance → Header page.

I checked http://www.momentscapturedyoung.com/ and I found that site is setup using WordPress software, but it is not hosted here at WordPress.com. See http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ to learn about the differences.

To get help with WordPress.org questions, you should ask in the WordPress.org volunteer forums. The Oxygen theme has a forum setup at http://wordpress.org/support/theme/oxygen
