I purchased the domain idontbot.com from you, and I would like to cancel the purchase. I DO NOT want my money back, but I want to be able to re-purchase it from another company, as I have chosen not to use wordpress hosting.

Hi. In that case, simply change the nameservers to those of your new hosting provider:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-nameservers
After 60 days (per international regulations), you can transfer the domain name to another registrar.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#transfer-to-another-registrar
Remember: the hosting provider and the registrar do not have to necessarily be the same company.
Then just point the name-servers to your new host, no need to cancel anything. Also it can take a while for the old domain name to go back into the wild and there are some people that buy up old domains so no guarantee that you can get your old domain.
Unfortunately, registered domains cannot be changed, but you can cancel your ownership of a domain purchased at WordPress.com and get a full refund within 2 days of purchase.
After cancellation, there is no guarantee the domain will become available to re-register somewhere else. Is that okay with you?
I'm asking as it's possible to keep the domain registered here at WordPress.com and switch to another web hosting provider at any time by updating the name servers.

Staff can cancel your domain for you, but it won't be available for purchase again for about a month, at which time it will be back on the open market.
