Removing Page Titles and Making Headline Image Smaller

  1. I just upgraded to be able to edit CSS, but my ignorance is keeping my from understanding it.

    Basically, I want to remove the page titles from my pages (for example, when I am on the "home" page, I don't want it to say "home" on the page. I just want the page to speak for itself after clicking on the home tab).

    Also, I want to resize my header graphic. It is more vertical than I would prefer. I would also like to remove it from my home, static page.

    Anything to help on this would be great! Right now, I am not even sure how to get into the CSS minus that first page with the welcome message on it.

    The blog I need help with is jaredcwellman.wordpress.com.

  2. Try it:

    .entry-header .entry-title {
    display: none;
    }

    .header-image {
    height: ???px;
    }

    .home .header-image {
    display: none;
    }

    ??? = change with the number (height) you want

  3. Oh sorry:

    .entry-header {
    display: none;
    }

    .header-image {
    height: ???px;
    }

    .home .header-image {
    display: none;
    }

    ??? = change with the number (height) you want

  4. I just cut that exactly and paste it into the CSS stylesheet editor?

  5. Alright. Thanks! Everything worked except for the header resize. Any other thoughts?

  6. Also, the code removed the page title for my blog titles, which I would like to keep. That is, is there a way to remove the page title for every page except for my blog page so that the blog titles show up?

  7. Alright. Thanks! Everything worked except for the header resize. Any other thoughts?

    To replace the header image in Twenty Twelve, use the following example and replace YOUR_IMAGE_URL with the link to a 960 pixel width image you've uploaded to your media library, and adjust the height value to match the height of your image.

    #masthead a img {
    	display: none;
    }

    #masthead > a {
    	background: url(YOUR_IMAGE_URL) no-repeat;
    	display: block;
    	width: 960px;
    	height: 120px;
    }

    Aside: Twenty Twelve does have flexible headers built in, but I couldn't get them to work the way I expected (which is to see a 960px wide image I uploaded display at 960px in the header). You can give flexible headers a try to see if you have better luck. To do it, first create an image the width and height you'd like to use (or double the size for retina/HiDPI), then upload that image using your Appearance → Header page and click the "Skip Cropping, Publish Image as Is" button.

  8. Is there a way to remove the page title for every page except for my blog page so that the blog titles show up?

    To hide page titles but keep post titles (like the ones on your Blog link), add this to your Appearance → Custom Design → CSS editor:

    .page .entry-header {
    	display:block;
    }
