Removing the site title

  1. Hi all.
I want to remove the 'Site Title' part of my blog, because my header image says the name of the site on it. However, when I do this it means that the top bar off the screen doesn't say "Liberty in Reality", but http://libertyinreality.wordpress.com.

Is there any way to change this?

    Thanks

The blog I need help with is libertyinreality.wordpress.com.

  2. Hi. Do you have the custom CSS upgrade?

  3. @tomforliberty
This is a just in case comment. Are you aware that search engine spider bots cannot read any text in images? That's why it's essential to have a blog title here > Settings > General Without it the search spiders will not index your site. It's also important that the blog title is the only H1 heading appearing on your page.

CSS is theme specific at wordpress.COM. Since there is no official Staff support for the CSS upgrade, and precious little Volunteer support, I recommend that you don’t buy the upgrade unless you have at least moderate understanding of HTML and CSS because you must be prepared to do the work on your own.

If you are considering purchasing the upgrade, you can go to Appearance > Edit CSS. There wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try before you buy.

If you do purchase the upgrade be sure to read this article before starting your editing > http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/ and then search the forum as CSS editing such as this have been dealt with before in other forum threads http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/remove-page-title-for-homepage-in-bueno?replies=8#post-562666

  4. Hi guys,

Thanks for your responses. No, I don't have the CSS upgrade. I knew that search engines can't read text in images, but I guess I didn't realise that it was important for them to be able to read your site title. Do you recommend that I put the title back, then, and make a different image?

  5. @Tomforliberty - there is the option of a premium theme (I sound like a WP salesperson) where you can retain the title for search engines without it displaying on your home page, and have the title in your image. Traction is the theme I use, but I believe there may be others.

Having a premium theme that meets your specific requirements may be better than considering the CSS upgrade, which I find rather scary - at least until my daughter has finished her CSS course! :)

The most important link on your whole blog is the blog title link. There are free themes that do have the feature of hiding the title (and tagline) with a click of a button here > Appearance > Header. I don't recall which ones they are.

  7. If you look in the chart on this post by Panos, it tells which themes here have the option to hide the title text.
