repeat spam

Is there a way I can completely block spam from even entering my spam folder? I'm talking about the ones that have names like "lista de email". I'm getting copious amounts and its taking loads of time to sift through the spam folder looking for legitimate comments that occasionally end up there. If these could be stopped before they even get that far that'd be great.

The blog I need help with is uknowispeaksense.wordpress.com.

  2. The answer is "no". Moreover, Akismet is catching all the spam so what's the issue? Akismet is the filter for preventing spam from appearing on your blog, and it works very well. Believe me when I say the amount of spam on WordPress.com blogs is diddly squat compared to what we get on self hosted WordPress.org installs.

The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam.

If Akismet has sequestered these spam comments simply click "empty spam" button.

If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it's spam.

On the spam that Akismet catches it takes only seconds to click "empty spam" and you don't even have to click "empty spam" if you don't want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.

Thanks timethief. I have read that. The issue for me is losing legitimate comments that end up in the spam folder. Simply clicking empty spam is all and well and good and that is what I do but not until I have looked through the entire folder to pick out any legit comments that inadvertently end up there due to commenter email addresses looking like company addresses or commenters having more than 3 links. It seems to be an unnecessary waste of time. I'm suggesting that akismet should have a list of keywords for spam email that we all seem to get over and over again, so it can be blocked completely before it even reaches the spam folder. Maybe one day.

  4. The issue for me is losing legitimate comments that end up in the spam folder.

I have used Akismet for over 6 years now and look at the numbers for one of my blogs:
    260,614 total spam
    11,382 total ham
    1,059 missed spam
    99 false positives
    99.57% accuracy rate
My other blogs also demonstrate that the false positives are very low.
