repointed URL on wordpress at root and copied the index.php and .htaccess but...

  1. Newbie first wordpress build. At the moment stuck like "Chuck." Here's what I've done:
    1.) On my Domain Details for http://www.balfourpost.com I have the following "ATTENTION Required!" message.

    Critical! We were unable to communicate with your Web server. Please verify your DNS and Web server are properly configured and accessible from the Internet.

    2.) Here's what's up:

    I setup orginally the webroot as http://www.balfourpost.com/bpost/

    the admin is http://www.balfourpost.com/bpost/wp-admin
    login is 822Cdt100

    3.) Copy (NOT MOVE!) the index.php and .htaccess files from the WordPress directory into the root directory of your site (Blog address). The .htaccess file is invisible, so you may have to set your FTP client to show hidden files. If you are not using pretty permalinks, then you may not have a .htaccess file.

    My Action: I did this exactly and placed duplicates of the index.php and .htaccess files in the root (balfourpost.com)

    Then I followed the next step:

    4.) Open your root directory's index.php file in a text editor

    5.)Change the following and save the file. Change the line that says:
    require('./wp-blog-header.php');
    to the following, using your directory name for the WordPress core files:
    require('./"Site"/wp-blog-header.php');

    My Action: I put in ('./bpost/wp-blog-header.php');

    6.) Login to the new location. It might now be http://example.com/wordpress/wp-admin/

    My Action: It took a hour or so before I could logon back in. When I did I when to the following step.

    7.) The when to SETTINGS/ Permalinks and saved the default.

    NOW here's the issue.

    http://www.balfourpost.com is not accessing any data but http://balfourpost.com/bpost/ does.

    When I go into the dash board my project is all there and I can see it but it's now pointing to the default,i.e.

    Common Settings

    Default http://balfourpost.com/?p=123

    So when I try to look at a previously build page and view it the default is queing up the .com and there is no page.

    When I create a new page ditto.

    This is my issue.

  2. That is not a free hosted WordPress.COM blog. Those are the only blogs we provide support for here. Your are posting to the wrong support forum. If you don't have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

  3. The site you are asking about does not seem to be hosted on WordPress.COM so you need to make friends over at WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using.
