Request for Belgian French

  1. Request for Belgian French deployment of GlotPress ( translation including anglicisms commonly practiced in the territory hosting The European Economic Union )

The blog I need help with is lilmaouz.wordpress.com.

  2. Added here: http://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/fr-be/default

I added you as the validator. Thanks for your help!

  3. Awesome :D
    Many Thanks, Jenia!
Have a wonderful december, and a very good day :)

  4. Hi, Jenia,
There are currently 4 pages translated and validated. The counter shows 68 segments on the General page. Can you explain why?
On glotpress for wordpress.com / France, my work, hundreds of segments and several years of efforts are completely destroyed since .org rewrites directly onto .com
I'd rather know now, I do not intend to repeat all the work to get the same disappointing result. Thank you in advance.

  5. Sorry, those 68 threads, that's correct. The thing that needs to be clarified: will wp.org France be able or not to rewrite onto glotpress for wordpress.com/Belgium the same way it is now applied (live) on the wordpress.com french interface? Because I'd like to do the good work for wordpress.COM users, with no French influence (nor .org). In case you wonder, my intention is commendable and devoted to the cause. I am an active volunteer, not a tourist. I always do my best and I do it with pleasure, but I try not to be too much idiot, you see what I mean ^^ Have a nice day :)

Sure. New/updated strings are usually deployed once there are at least 200 strings, as mentioned in the Translation FAQ. French (Belgium) has now been deployed for the first time. Please take a look and let me know if you have any questions.

In order to bring WordPress.com to as many French speakers as possible, we are running an experiment where we are using WordPress.org translations as well as professional translators to have the interface to be fully translated. Naoko, the Happiness Engineer who is leading this effort, sent you a heads-up email about that on November 1st. I see that you did not respond, so I wonder if you saw that email?

You are the only validator for French (Belgium), and as far as I'm aware there is no French (Belgium) version for WordPress.org. We would not be mixing regional varieties, as it's not helpful to anyone. If we were to upload external translations into the French (Belgium) translation for WordPress.com, we would give you a heads-up. I don't think there is a reason for concern there, and I hope I've answered your questions. As always, thank you very much for your help!

  7. I saw the email but since the only option is to bow before such a fact I didn't feel it necessary to share my opinion. Thus, the above question about the belgian application became necessary. I asked my valid negotiator onto wordpress.com environment…

Yes of course you did, Jenia. And I thank You very very much! Love,
    (the bad mouse ;)

  8. Hi lilmaouz,
Looks like I just sent another email just before your comment here.
We want to make sure not to overwrite any WordPress.com translation done by volunteers (unless there's a typo or obvious mistake). As to French .org translation - Xavier has been synching the translation with .com.

I would be happy to send you the PO file by professional translators before importing into GlotPress if you could help us review them. It is our common goal to complete the translation as much as possible. We are getting some extra help to achieve this, but your opinion as an active translator / user is very important.

Again, thank you so much for your continuous help!

  9. Hello, Naokomc!
Thank you so much! Yes of course, I'm interested in getting the PO file. Mostly for future investigation.

The following is a bref overview about any non english person that sign in on a translated wordpress.com webpage and by clicking the link you sent, they do confirm and got the second later a bunch of misterious content as very first "flash".

Above this, new members do not have the same knowledges than members that use or plan to use wordpress cms have, and lots of them do not even have the basics in english (a pity or not, that's a fact). Of course google translate is supposed to be their friend but, as the tool breaks the code and displays "tranlated" for "untranslated", or "French" for "english", they're way far from the goal!

And since Learn WordPress, including its links, and the content displayed on the official support pages are missing onto GlotPress, this is not what I should call a great start.

So I began and I always do to check how specific words included onto a string were displayed before, matching both the official support and the wordpress.com french forum, as well as specific terms that don't need nor gain to be translated (like sticky, or sidebar - including the footer area in english, since there's no way to know where the string will apply, barre latérale is not correct), and last but not least, the space that's displayed, trying to keep our screen free from distorsions.

This means I will open one tab onto my dashboard, another one to the related content (support) to figure out what it is about, one more for the current content (glotpress) and one using google in order to find all related strings and double check what's the good one. And at last my translator if needed, since I'm not fluent in english, as you can see.

That's much more than just to validate few words. Thought this is some crazy job, but now only a few people are coming around to complain, and that is a great deal! That's why I fear (how could I approve) the new cms thing that's now applied "live" onto wordpress.com for France.

You see, english users (and then volunteers of the US forums) have at least an support they can rely on. Yet, many many people need more help each and every day. The other people don't have the same chance, and sorry for this but the French version of glotpress for wordpress.com that was the best one (easy to use) a few weeks ago, this is a mess, the opposite of progress.

Revert to the past (or stopping the run), to be honest, not sure I wanna peel the same still and again. Neither do I want to increase any conflict.
I know how such things can turn. I rather concentrate on to the brand new "fr-be" version including english and displaying the best related. This was why I asked Jenia… Again, thank you for allowing me to express myself, even if it is not much fun. And a hard exercice! (hope you won't ask for more, I've spend my day on it) lol ^^ Have a great day! :)
