Reserved URL for previous Username

  1. Hey there, there's a certain url that I wish to use but it says that it is reserved.

The url in question is my previous named account's webby, but after I -just now- changed my username I have found that I cannot use it.
While I realize now that I should have created the blog beforehand, this was before I found out that urls and such were reserved.

I tried changing my username back to the original to see if that would work but obviously it did not.

I've been reading around and have found that unless you hold the original account than the reserved name cannot be utilized by you, however, I am still using the same exact account, just under a different name, so I feel as though I should still be able to use it (as it is technically reserved for me).

Any help would me much appreciated :)

  2. You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.

  3. Supportbot wants me to tell you the blog link, the blog in question has not yet been created, but the one I'm reaching to fetch is:

    neonhue7.wordpress.com

  4. Hmm, no edit feature. Well, I want to say that I understand reserved means that it is, well, being held and permanently saved for some other user (in this case the original user), but what I'm asking for help for is a little bit different as I am the original user.

Just clarifying if it was confusing before.

    Thanks!

  5. No help?

An answer of "no, you still can't do that, sorry" would be enough quell my curiosity... or tell me to move on.

I went from username neonhue7 to bassest, both neonhue7.wordpress.com and bassest.wordpress.com has been reserved. I had not created/claimed neonhue7.wordpress.com while the account was under that name, now I would like to create that. Possible?

I did not create a new account, I just used the change name feature, which I remember telling me I can't switch back to the name, but I'm not sure if anything about retaining/relinquishing the reserved blog address that comes with the username change.

  6. I tried changing my username back to the original to see if that would work but obviously it did not.

    Please read this section:

Once you change your username you will not be able to change it back and the old name will not be available for anyone else to use. http://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/

  7. Usernames can be turned into blog addresses, but blog addresses cannot be turned into usernames. For most usernames and blog addresses are the same. When we register a WordPress.com username account the matching blog is automatically reserved for our future use. That reserved blog cannot be obtained by anyone other than the person who has registered the matching username.

  8. Okay, that last link helped, thanks :)

That reserved blog cannot be obtained by anyone other than the person who has registered the matching username.

It was just this part that didn't make sense^^.
I still am the person who registered the matching username, so I thought I was still able to obtain it...

but I see that blog addresses and matching usernames are permanently linked, and username changing permanenly "removes" the existence of the previous username, and so the blog address as well.

Yes. That's it and I'm sorry you did not understand that from the outset.

  10. It should have been made a lot clearer from the outset.

That reserved blog cannot be obtained by anyone other than the person who has registered the matching username.

And clearly this^^ is a lie. You should understand how to identify between a person and a username.
