Results of Search Engine Terms are my blog URL

  1. My blog is set up so that it is blocked from being found via search engines. The only result that ever shows up is the URL to my blog.

The only explanation I have for this is that someone who is a regular reader queries my blog by typing in the URL in a search engine.

Would that be right, or is there some other explanation for it?

The blog I need help with is paperphan.wordpress.com.

  2. No one ever responded. I'm just wondering if anyone can offer some advice about my question? Thank you.

  3. If anyone, anywhere on the internet posted a link on another blog or website to a post or page on your blog, then that link can end up at the search engines when the search engines crawl that other blog or site. If you posted a link on twitter, or on facebook or myspace, or if anyone else did, you can end up on the search engines, but as you have seen, all there will be is the link since the search engines are honoring your setting and not indexing your actual blog.

  4. Blocking search engines simply means that the search engines will not crawl your actual blog and build any links and entries for searches off of the material directly on your blog.

  5. Thank you Sacred Path. That helps tremendously. I guess with a "free" blog there's only much you can expect. This service is robust enough, but the more I learn, the more I am finding that I'd like to have. :-)

  6. The thing is, the issues with the search engines would be the same no matter where you blogged, because it isn't something that is within your control. You can keep search engines from crawling and indexing your blog, but you cannot keep them from finding you via a link on another blog or site. All it takes is one link even in a comment made by you on another blog. You linked your username to your blog and every time you leave a comment on a wordpress.COM blog, that link is there. If you comment on another blog and leave the URL of your blog when you do, a link to your blog is there.

Even if you set your blog to private, all it would take in one link to it somewhere on the internet, and there is a high likelihood of your blog being listed on search engines. There would not be any details with the link - since your blog was set to private - but it would be there.

The bottom line is there is no way to stay completely under the radar on the internet. It simply is not possible, and again, it has nothing to do with where you blog, or what platform you use.
