Reversing a cancellation

  1. Hi there.

    I purchased a .com address

However when I went on to My Blogs, two separate blogs showed up:

    formulaediarydotcom.wordpress.com

    and

    formulaediary.wordpress.com

I thought a mistake had been made and so wanted to cancel and restart the process again. However, now having read around I'm not sure I should have done this?

Can the decision to cancel and be refunded be reversed please?

Also, could someone clarify the situation to me, as to why two new blogs were created, and why they both can be edited and worked on, but have different appearances.

The blog I need help with is formulaediary.com.

  2. You have a domain mapping upgrade in place that maps from formulaediarydotcom.wordpress.com to http://formulaediary.com/ properly. And it does not matter what any underlying .wordpress.com URL is when you are domain mapping. The two do not have to match at all. As you want to move the domain mapping to formulaediary.wordpress.com I'll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

  3. Thank you for replying.

When I saw that two sites had been created I didn't know which one I was meant to be working on. Whether one was to be left, whether they act as two independent sites etc...

But yes I hope y cancellation can be reversed!
And I am still confused as to why both sites look different in appearance and which is the correct one to work on.

  4. The sites look different merely because they have different themes. Themes are like clothes for blogs and we can change them as often as we want to and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change.

You can quickly and easily change themes to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ The only time you may have to do some work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme and have done any CSS editing.

Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes and browse themes until you find one you like and click "activate" or type in the name of the theme you want to use and
click the "activate" link when it appears.

After you change your theme all you need to do is go here Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets > Inactive Widgets and re-install them where you want them to appear. The widget contents and settings will be the same as they were prior to changing themes.

  5. Hi there!

I've checked your account and can see that your domain "formulaediary.com" is still active and was not in any way cancelled. After reading through the thread, I believe that you'd like to transfer the domain to your "formulaediary.wordpress.com" blog? Let me know if that's the case so I can take care of it. Thank you!

  6. No I'd like the domain to remain as

    formulaediary.com

however I have clicked to cancel this domain, it currently says

'Status: Cancellation Pending' within the My Upgrades tab.

I would like to stop this cancellation from going ahead.

  7. Oh maybe I do want it transferred? to be honest this whole process has hugely confused me! The most important thing is that I hold on to formulaediary.com!

I want that to appear as the website name.

  8. Hi there!

Sorry for the confusion. To clarify, you will still require a "wordpress.com" site such as "formulaediary.wordpress.com" for administrative purposes of your blog. Your visitors, however, will not see this, but will view your blog at the "formulaediary.com" address instead. I've gone ahead and removed the pending cancellation on the domain. Moving forward, which blog would you like to associate it with?

    formulaediarydotcom.wordpress.com or formulaediary.wordpress.com

Again, it won't matter much where the domain points to, since your visitors will not be able to see it. However, "formulaediary.wordpress.com" sounds like a nicer one. :)

    Let me know!

  9. Hi,

Thank you for removing the pending cancellation :)

    So just to clarify:

    - formulaediarydotcom.wordpress.com exists because that is how .com addresses are sold to members? this is how I see the address, despite it not being how readers see it?

    - formulaedairy.wordpress.com exists because that is the free wordpress.com blog that was created in tandem with the .com purchase?

    Is that correct?

And currently .com is being mapped to formulaediarydotcom.wordpress.com but if I wanted to, I could have it mapped to formulaediary.wordpress, com?

Does that mean the domain name formulaediarydotcom.wordpress.com would revert to being the free wordpress.com blog?

I assume I need to keep both because if didn't pay for a second year of .com, all my work would revert on to the free blog which is currently .wordpress.com?

    Is that right?

I really appreciate your help and time!

    Thank you.

  10. Hi there!

    To answer your questions:

formulaediarydotcom.wordpress.com exists because that is how .com addresses are sold to members? this is how I see the address, despite it not being how readers see it?

"formulaediarydotcom.wordpress.com" exists because you purchased a domain and created a blog at the same time. But do note that when you already have a blog, it is still possible to purchase a domain for it.

formulaedairy.wordpress.com exists because that is the free wordpress.com blog that was created in tandem with the .com purchase?

Yes it is a free WordPress.com blog but doesn't have a custom domain assigned to it at the moment.

And currently .com is being mapped to formulaediarydotcom.wordpress.com but if I wanted to, I could have it mapped to formulaediary.wordpress.com?

    Yes, that can be done.

Does that mean the domain name formulaediarydotcom.wordpress.com would revert to being the free wordpress.com blog?

    Yes.

I assume I need to keep both because if didn't pay for a second year of .com, all my work would revert on to the free blog which is currently .wordpress.com?

You will only need to keep the blog where you'll be creating all your work.

Let me know if you have any follow up questions. Cheers!

  11. Thanks that's been helpful.

Could you please map the .com domain on to formulaediary.wordpress.com.

    Thank you :)

There's no reason for me to hold on to formulaediarydotcom.wordpress.com then?

  12. Hi!

I've gone ahead and transferred the domain "formulaediary.com" to "formulaediary.wordpress.com". If you go to that blog's admin panel, and head over to Store -> My Upgrades, you can see the domain listed as an active upgrade.

    https://formulaediary.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades

There's no reason for me to hold on to formulaediarydotcom.wordpress.com then?

There no reason, but it won't hurt to have it around as well. :)
