RSS Feed for Posts and Comments question

    I have some question about the url for posts and comments.

    My blog is a part of two different political blogs aggregators. One pulls just the posts, the other pulls the posts and the comments. I have a post that I put up Tuesday morning that I needed to keep on top. Since we have no "sticky" option, the way I kept the post on top was by changing the date and time. Unbeknownst to me, that also changed the feed, so people who linked to the original post now got an error.

    The url it was moved to:
    http://vivianpaige.wordpress.com/2006/07/13/brian-moran-live-blog-thursday-713/

    In addition, the comments feed changed. And, it seems there is a limit on the number of comments that go thru the comments feed. It seems to be limited to the last 10 comments. (The aggregator that pulls comments has a feature that shows the most commented on posts.)     So here are my questions:
    1. How can I avoid the changing RSS url when I need to keep a post on top?

    2. How can I (or can I) fix the comments RSS url to include more than the last 10 comments?

    - You best bet would be to create a new post at the first URL with that same title and slug and point folks to the new location of the post.

    - Try Dashboard -> Options -> Reading -> Syndication Feeds. I do belieb though that the widgets will only show 10 links though.

    Excellent idea! (Just have to remember to keep updating the original location post with the location of the new one)

    I've been playing with this. When I increase the number of posts in the syndication feed, it also increases the number of comments sent thru the feed.

    Interestingly enough, some comments that I post are not assigned a number and don't come up thru the feed. Oh well.

    Not sure about the missing comments from your RSS feed. Are they just yours that you do? You might want to send in a Feedback and specifically point to the missing bits out of the RSS feed. That might be an issue there.

    I sent a feedback pointing to this thread. In looking at the feed, one of my comments is there and assigned a number. The result of my comments are not there.

    Vivian, I would love to help but that's really a back end issue.

    It's strange though that it would be leaving out the site owner's comments though.

    I am currently using the Hemingway theme, that theme does not have recent comments widget at all, so for now, as I don't want to change themes I have created a page that I have to manually update called Hot Topics.

    Is there a way to create another blog that will be rss fed for the comments on my original blog? In other words can I create a page in my original blog called Recent Comments then I would link to the new blog I have created that picks up the rss feed?

    Ummm the problem that I can see with that is if people want to comment on the second blog which has the widgets and pulls the posts up, would those new comments show up on my original blog?

    I hope this makes some sort of sense! If anyone can help me with a work around for this as I really don't want to change my Hemingway theme, I would appreciate your help.

    And before anyone tells me to submit my request for a recent comment widget to feedback... I have done this several times but to no avail.

    Ok... I have done what I wanted with it, and it works! I will just keep an eye on the stats to see if it is worth keeping!
