SandBox Alignment Issues (Help!)

  1. Hi,

    Thanks for reading this!

    I'm using Sandbox and, so far, I've gotten pretty much everything to look how I'd like it to look. However, nothing is in the right position.

    The Sidebar floats around and for some reason the secondary sidebar is at the bottom of the page (the blank box). Also, the footer I previously had up no longer shows after I experimented moving the sidebar around. The sidebar still moves (relative to the other things on the page) when the window gets resized but I don't know what to do to get it to sit on the left side of the main content without using something like absolute positioning.

    Ideally, everything would be in the center of the page (with no gaps)...I know some things will need to be resized but if the alignment is more or less there, I can definitely adjust the header sizes and everything.

    Thank you in advance!

  2. What do you mean "everything would be in the center"? Do you want the main content centred and then the sidebars to appear underneath? You need to describe your ideal layout clearly and maybe then we can help.

  3. Hi,

    I'd really like the main content centered, with the sidebars to the left. Ideally, the height of the two sidebars would be the same as the height of the main content (which would make a rectangle in the center of the page with the two sidebars on the left and the main content next to them).

    If I'm able to do that, I would center the header image also and would likely need to adjust the size (which I can do) so that it extends over both the main content and sidebars.

    Sorry if I wasn't clear before. And please let me know if this still isn't clear.

  4. Also, if the header could be positioned so that it's flush with the sidebar and main content, that would be really helpful because right now there is a substantial vertical gap between the two.

  5. Have a read through the code below, it should get you started. The auto margins will centre the whole content and you can easily switch the main and sidebar positions by floating them opposite ways.

    #wrapper {width:945px; margin:0 auto; background:#fff;}
    #container {float:right; width:600px; margin:0; padding:0;}
    .sidebar {float:left; width:300px; clear:left; margin:0; border:0;}

  6. Thank you!

    That's a huge help. I have everything centered on the page now.

    I just have two more (hopefully) quick questions.

    1) Is there anyway to align the sidebar and main content vertically (meaning their top edge is at the same height)? Right now, the main content is fairly low on the page and I've tried a few different things but can't get it to come up any further.

    2) In the Sandbox 1.6.1 theme, there is a navigation bar at the top...and I can't figure out what I did to make that go away. Is there any way to get it back?

    Thanks so much for your help.

  7. Sorry, just to be a little clearer, what I mean by the navigation by is the link the original Sandbox Theme had to an "About" before I did any of the CSS edits.

  8. The bit that is stopping the main content being aligned is the previous/next links which aren't showing at the moment due to only having one page of posts. You can remove it from the top completely with:

    #nav-above {display:none;}

    You'd have to check your theme options and static pages to find out how to re-include the navigation links.

  9. Thanks so much...

    I know I said only two questions but I just noticed another issue...when the sidebar got wrapped with the main content, the links stopped working in the sidebar.

    I can click on everything in main content area but nothing in the sidebars works (the archive function, the search field, the links from the Twitter feed).

    Is there anyway to fix this?

  10. Also, this doesn't seem to be an issue in IE 8. I'll check Safari, Chrome, etc. also.

  11. I checked with multiple browsers and the sidebar works in IE 8 but not the latest versions of Firefox, Chrome, or Safari.

  12. This seems to be working fine for me with all those browsers on a mac. Are you still having problems?

  13. Hi,

    Thank you for all your help. I was able to fix it--some of the content area was overlapping the sidebar.

    Thanks again!
