Saving draft deleted my post

  1. If anyone can help with this problem it would be very much appreciated.

I just finished up writing for the night and wanted to save the draft of my post so I could finish the post and edit it tomorrow. When I hit the save draft button a page came up saying "Are you sure you want to do this?" and then underneath that was a try again link.

I clicked the back button on my browser since it was obviously an error page, and when I did that my entire post was gone. I clicked the forward button on my browser and this time when I got the error message I clicked the try again link and my entire post was still gone. I went into my saved drafts page and it also was not in there.

Isn't WordPress supposed to save drafts by itself on a regular basis?

If anyone has any idea how to get my supposedly saved post back it would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

The blog I need help with is vijourney.wordpress.com.

Unfortunately, I think your draft is probably gone. Right now there are a slew of usability issues being experienced by many wordpress.com users. I believe problems saving drafts is in that list of functions that are currently being experienced, but check in the following thread to make sure: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-stop-flooding-wordpress-is-down-1?replies=30

  3. Thank you two for the information.

So far I cannot find the post anywhere, or any of the saved posts that I thought WordPress saved on a regular basis when you are writing them up.

Looks like I will have to write it up again. Thanks again for the information.

There is along standing issue that Staff are aware of. You may be able to recover an earlier Page Revision. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/page-revisions/ Go to Pages > All Pages, hover over the title of the page, click Edit and check the Page Revisions module for previous saved versions of the page.

If you're not seeing the Revisions module while on the editor screen, click Screen Options (top right corner of your Admin page) http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ to activate it. Then select the post and page modules to include them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules Then you ought to be able to go here > Dashboard > All Pages > Pages and locate the page and recover it from page revisions.

If you cannot locate the page by using the instructions I provided for locating and restoring a page revision, and it's not in your Trash folder http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/ then you will not be able to recover it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash

    Advice:
When you start a new post or page, add the title, set it to private and then publish it. When you are done, set it back to publish and update it. Another option is to get and use an offline blog client such as Windows Live Writer (Windows) or Ecto (Mac) and then everything is saved on your computer and when you are done with the post, you actually publish it directly from the blog client software. See here for offline blog editors so you don't have to go through this again http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc

Thank you for the information and advice. Unfortunantly it looks like nothing was saved last night when I was writing, not the page revisions or any drafts at all.

Looks like I will have to rewrite the whole post. When I do start writing, I will employ some of the advice about how to avoid this in the future.

    Thank you
