"Scheduled Posts" Widget – List of upcoming editorials

  • What better way to keep readers coming back than letting them know what’s coming up, and that would be my “scheduled” posts list. It would be ever so helpful to have a widget that would automatically list the titles only of the posts I have made and scheduled for publication according to my editorial calendar…and an ability to of course to custom name it. Thanks for your consideration! :)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • That’s an interesting idea and while you are waiting for that to happen I have a suggestion. You can use a text widget to display upcoming scheduled post titles however the links will not be active until they are actually published.

NOTE: Scheduled posts do not publish until the first visitor to the site after the date and time scheduled clicks in and triggers publication of the post.

  • ok, so in the text widget, I’d have to type the titles of my scheduled posts myself, right? No I wasn’t thinking they would be a hyperlinks…that would defeat the purpose…lol. The list should never have a hyperlink and when they get published, they should automatically be removed because then they become “recent posts” in that widget.

Oh, I didn’t know it didnt’ publish “at the time” I specify unless someone actually visits my site first… I don’t like that!

  • I don’t like that!

What more can I say? It’s the way the software works.

  • I get that it’s the way the software works, I just don’t have to like it, and thought I’d left it at that.

So again, I’d have to type the list of post titles myself correct?…the text widget isn’t going to do it…and are you assuming I’d be putting in links and that’s why you said “the links will not be be active”?

  • You’re right. We don’t have to like, this that or the other. No text widget isn’t going to do anything automatically. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/

I wanted to be sure you understood that links would not be active until the posts were actually published, if you decided to use a text widget.

  • So I can type href url html code into the text widget and it will turn the code into a hyperlink when I activate the widget? …

but, if I understand correctly, I’m thinking they actually will be active links and send you to a 404 broken link page?

  • That’s right. We can enter HTML codes into Text widgets like it says here http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/. Those who cannot code create a draft post and once it’s done they switch to the Text editor and copy and paste the HTML into a text widget. And, yes the links will be 404 (page not found) until the posts in question are actually published.

  • Good to know. But for this widget idea (and workaround) there’s no need for any html or hyperlinks…strictly a text-only box, auto-generated in date order, the date and title of the scheduled posts and a customizable widget title and the ability to select the date range…ie a week, a month. Thanks again and hope to see it one day! I put the text box workaround on my sidebar should you like to see it. :)

  • Aha! I see the Coming this Week widget in your sidebar. Best wishes with getting the kind of widget you requested initially.
